Doctor Who’s Sharon D Clarke commands the room in first look at Ellis

As an ardent fan of gripping crime dramas, I eagerly anticipate the arrival of DCI Ellis, portrayed by the exceptionally talented Sharon D. Clarke. Her illustrious career spans across various genres, from her role as Grace O’Brien in Doctor Who to her critically acclaimed performances in Lost Boys and Fairies, Mr Loverman, and even a recent production of Death of a Salesman at the Young Vic.

The show centers around Detective Chief Inspector Ellis (Clarke), who is often deployed to crime scenes where other investigations have stalled. Her keen intuition consistently helps crack the cases and reveal the hidden truths.

Although Ellis consistently claims she’s just there to assist, local investigators frequently treat her with frostiness, viewing her presence as an accusation against their own competence.

In each installment of the forthcoming three-part series, the detective finds herself at a distinct police station, tasked with gaining the trust of skeptics and solving the perplexing mystery that has confounded everyone involved.

Take a look at the Channel 5’s Ellis trailer that we have provided, and don’t forget to watch the series debut at 8 pm on Thursday, October 31st, 2024.

Clarke is recognized among Doctor Who enthusiasts as Grace O’Brien, the grandmother of Ryan Sinclair, the Thirteenth Doctor’s companion (played by Tosin Cole). Apart from this role, she has worked in various productions like Lost Boys and Fairies, Mr. Loverman, and a recent staging of Death of a Salesman at the Young Vic.

In addition to Ellis’s main cast, Andrew Gower from “The Winter King” and Allison Harding known for her role in “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!” are also part of the team. Each episode showcases a group of special guest artists as well.

The summary for Episode 1 of Ellis goes like this: “When the body of 18-year-old Rowan Edwards is discovered, DCI Ellis is asked by ACC Alison Leighton to lead the investigation. There’s been no sign of Rowan’s girlfriend Maggie since his death, and time is of the essence in solving this case.

Rowan’s former MP mom harbors concerns about the abilities of the local police department, whereas the present Lead Investigator believes he has the murderer cornered and is somewhat annoyed at being reassigned from the case.

In a different phrasing, “Chet Harper [Gower] is put in charge of watching over Ellis because the man has no faith in her whatsoever. As Ellis delves deeper into Hanmore, she discovers that the town’s parents are unaware of their children’s lives.
