Dodgeball 2 CONFIRMED?! What Alan Tudyk Just Revealed Will Shock You!

Alan Tudyk isn’t avoiding discussions about the potential sequel to “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story”. In 2004, he portrayed Steve the Pirate in this beloved comedy featuring Vince Vaughn as the lead. The story revolves around a team of underdogs – Justin (Justin Long), Gordon (Stephen Root), Owen (Joel David Moore), Dwight (Chris Williams), and Kate (Christine Taylor) – who compete in a dodgeball tournament to save their gym, Average Joe’s, from White Goodman’s (Ben Stiller) Globo Gym goons. The competition is for a prize of $50,000 to help Peter (Vaughn), the gym owner, stay afloat.

In a chat with ComicBook, Tudyk hinted at his comeback in the Star Wars galaxy for season 2 of Andor, and also dropped some intriguing details about the potential sequel to Dodgeball. He left us wondering if he’d be up for another round of that game.

Speaking as a die-hard movie fan, I’ve got to say, there seems to be some unseen force hindering the release of a sequel to “Dodgeball.” However, let me reassure you, a script for “Dodgeball 2” has indeed been penned down.

He stated that he had come across some reports online, as well as rumors circulating, regarding Vince’s preference for something. However, he admitted his knowledge on the matter is limited, as he isn’t sure if he himself is involved in it. He added that during the making of the movie, he injured his shoulder and at 54 years old, he doubts his ability to reprise the role.

In a proposed turn of events, Tudyk put forth the idea that he might take over as Patches O’Hoolihan, the seven-time American Dodgeball Association of America All-Star champion turned coach, for a newly formed dodgeball team. This character was known for teaching the five fundamental skills of dodgeball: evasion, dodging, dipping, diving, and more dodging.

Tudyk playfully suggested, ‘Perhaps I could become a coach or something similar. I might take over the role of Patches O’Hoolihan. Since Rip Torn was always outdoing me on set, maybe I’ll just embody the new Patches in a wheelchair.’

In April of 2023, news broke that a follow-up to the movie “Dodgeball” was in its initial stages at Disney’s 20th Century Studios (previously known as 20th Century Fox). Jordan VanDina, from “The Binge”, was chosen to pen the sequel. Vaughn is expected to both star and produce, given that the concept for this new “Underdog Story” was described by Long as a fantastic idea.

Previously, in a conversation with ComicBook, it was clear that I would be delighted to participate, and I am optimistic that it will indeed come to fruition. Regarding a potential Dodgeball 2, Stiller has expressed some hesitation about creating a sequel to such a cherished film, something that fans enjoy so much.

It’s quite precarious, you wouldn’t want to mess with the classic, instead aim for something equally impressive,” he went on. “I believe he’s a bit hesitant about this – recreating something that was unique to its era. However, I’m optimistic that he’ll change his mind. Vince is quite persuasive, so I’m hoping Vince can persuade him with his concept. It’s an amusing idea.

In 2004, Rawson Marshall Thurber’s original comedy, which he both wrote and directed, grossed $164 million at the box office. This humorous film featured a distinguished cast that included Gary Cole and Jason Bateman as commentators for ESPN8: The Ocho, with notable cameos by Chuck Norris, David Hasselhoff, and William Shatner.
