As a gamer who’s been haunted by Beetlejuice since the 80s, I can’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment that there’s no post-credits scene in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. However, Tim Burton has always had his own unique way of storytelling, and the unconventional ending, with its false awakenings, was a fitting twist to an already intriguing tale.
Fans of the movie “Beetlejuice” have been eagerly anticipating more stories about the “Ghost with the Most” for over 30 years, and their wish has finally come true with the release of “Beetlejuice: Beetlejuice”. Although audiences are excited to see as much of the character as possible, there is no additional scene during or after the credits to satisfy those craving more. Director Tim Burton opted to end the story on a conclusive note rather than leaving it open for potential sequels, given the slim chances of another installment. “Beetlejuice: Beetlejuice” is currently showing in cinemas now.
Instead of having a traditional post-credits scene like modern movies do, the original ‘Beetlejuice’ movie from 1988 included a humorous post-script instead. In the final scenes, the Deetz family and ghostly Maitlands successfully prevent Beetlegeuse (played by Michael Keaton) from marrying Lydia (Winona Ryder). To celebrate their victory, they dance supernaturally. The movie then shows a brief scene of Beetlegeuse waiting in the Neitherworld Waiting Room for his number to be called. When he realizes how long he has to wait, he tricks another ghost to get a better number. However, Beetlegeuse is punished for his trickery, as they shrink his head as a form of punishment. This amusing afterthought added to an already enjoyable viewing experience.
Although Beetlejuice doesn’t include a traditional post-credit scene, it wraps up its story in an unusual manner, employing a few unexpected twists.
WARNING: Spoilers below for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
In this new iteration of “Beetlejuice,” much like myself, Beetlegeuse still harbors feelings for Lydia. However, his intentions are different now; he seeks to marry her this time as a means to escape his bothersome ex-wife (Monica Bellucci). This union is contingent on saving Lydia’s daughter Astrid (Jenna Ortega). Coming close to achieving his 30-year dream of marrying Lydia, a minor paperwork hiccup renders their matrimony invalid.
Although these closing scenes don’t quite qualify as an after-credit sequence, they hint that Lydia might not easily forget Beetlegeuse for a while. It also suggests that both Lydia and viewers haven’t witnessed the final appearance of this character yet.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is in theaters now.
