As a die-hard cinephile with decades of experience under my belt, I have grown accustomed to the excitement and anticipation that comes with sitting through the end credits of Marvel movies in search of that elusive post-credits scene. The genre has become a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), often providing fans with tantalizing glimpses into future storylines or lighthearted jokes to round off an otherwise intense cinematic experience.
*WARNING: Contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine**
After the end of a Marvel movie comes the scene before the credits roll, which has grown to be a signature element. It’s filled with surprise twists and turns, introducing significant future storylines or adding a humorous touch as the audience is leaving the theater.
As a movie enthusiast who’s always excited about the unconventional, I’ve noticed that the Deadpool films have consistently gone for the witty and irreverent tone in the past. This choice aligns perfectly with the character’s infamous smart-mouthed persona.
In simpler terms, the initial movie poked fun at the audience for staying so patient only to encounter an underwhelming and anticlimactic ending. On the other hand, the second installment made a witty meta comment about Ryan Reynolds’ earlier unsuccessful superhero role in the critically panned 2011 film “Green Lantern.”
With the character officially part of the MCU in the latest Deadpool & Wolverine release, what’s left in store for us this time? Is it just another lighthearted joke or could it possibly signal bigger things for the character now that he’s firmly integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Read on for everything you need to know about the Deadpool & Wolverine post-credits scene.
Does Deadpool & Wolverine have a post-credits scene?
During the ending credits, a heartwarming montage plays out as the timeless Green Day anthem “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” fills the room. This thoughtfully compiled collection of footage from earlier X-Men and Fox Marvel productions features younger versions of beloved actors like Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. It’s a delightful surprise for fans, adding an emotional touch to the end of the film.
As a film enthusiast, I’d put it this way: After the credits roll, there’s still one last scene waiting for you. It’s more of a lighthearted joke than something meaningful or impactful.
In simpler terms, this is a reference back to an earlier scene in the movie where Deadpool is trying to prove his innocence after being falsely blamed for causing Johnny Storm’s (Chris Evans) fatal words that ultimately resulted in his death at the hands of Cassandra Nova.
In that scene, Deadpool accused Johnny of speaking extensively vulgar and offensive words about the villain, but Johnny argued in vain that Deadpool had invented these statements. Following this, Deadpool received significant criticism from Logan for allegedly fabricating these words and thereby leading to Johnny’s death.
After the credits finish rolling, Deadpool goes back to the Television Agency (TVA) to examine the evidence and confirm his previous claims: indeed, Johnny had spoken all the alleged insults in their entirety, delivering them with great enthusiasm.
While this action doesn’t resurrect Johnny from his violent end, it does prove that Deadpool wasn’t lying in his previous statements. In other words, Deadpool was telling the truth, providing a sense of validation.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now showing in UK cinemas.
