Could you explain the storyline development of Elden Ring Nightreign, including if it features various endings?
As a diehard fan, I must say that Elden Ring: Nightreign sets itself apart from any past FromSoftware titles I’ve played. Instead of the familiar soulslike progression system, this game leans more towards roguelike mechanics. Though it preserves the essential gameplay and combat dynamics of the original Elden Ring, the feel is remarkably distinct from its predecessor. The shift isn’t merely about the primary progression system; the narrative style in Nightreign also stands out significantly compared to other FromSoftware soulslikes.
In this game, although there are descriptions for items and mysterious codes related to the lore, the majority of the story is communicated to the player through the Remembrance system.
Despite the unique approach in storytelling, Nightreign shares some resemblances with earlier Souls games from FromSoftware. Just like those previous titles, Nightreign offers multiple conclusions. Here’s a rundown on the various endings you can encounter in Elden Ring Nightreign.
How Many Endings Are There in Elden Ring Nightreign?
In Nightreign, the way endings are structured differs from other FromSoftware games. Rather than having multiple endings based on your choices, each character has their unique ending. For instance, if you complete the Remembrance quest for a particular Nightfarer and then use that character to vanquish the final boss, you’ll be given an option to choose a distinct ending for that specific character. However, not all characters in the game have this feature.
As a gamer immersed in this captivating world, I’ve come to realize that Wylder, Revenant, and Ironeye are special characters who each have an exclusive second chapter to their stories. On the other hand, Raider, Executor, and Duchess don’t seem to share this privilege. This additional chapter primarily revolves around the Nightfarer’s narrative, continuing their Remembrance quest.
At the close of the game, you acquire the “Nightlord’s Grand Runic Artifact.” Ordinarily, your character employs this artifact to vanquish the Nightlords and banish the Night from the Lands Between, at the cost of their own life. However, for certain characters, there is an option to either utilize the artifact or assume the role of the Nightlord instead. No matter which ending you select, the final scene remains unaltered, providing a glimpse of the Nightlord’s arrival in the Lands Between.
Is Nightreign’s Ending Tied to Other FromSoftware Games?
Much of Nightreign’s tale remains open to interpretation. The Recollections offer some insight into the Nightfarer’s history and their relationship with the Lands Between, but beyond that, Nightreign appears unrelated to Elden Ring’s overall narrative. Regarding the appearance of bosses from earlier FromSoftware games, there is no in-story explanation provided for this phenomenon.
The game subtly suggests that the story of the Nightlord may continue within the Lands Between, possibly through a downloadable content expansion. Yet, it’s important to note that Nightreign does not have any clear links to earlier games developed by FromSoftware.
