As a long-time fan and avid gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various worlds, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon hearing Neil Marshall’s latest announcement about the potential sequel to “Dog Soldiers.” This film was not just an entertaining watch, but it also played a significant role in shaping the careers of many talented individuals, including the esteemed Mr. Marshall himself and the illustrious Liam Cunningham, who graced our screens as Davos Seaworth in “Game of Thrones.
Film director Neil Marshall expressed doubt recently that a sequel to the movie “Dog Soldiers” will materialize. On November 11th, he posted a mock poster for “Dog Soldiers 2: Underdogs,” stating, “Unfortunately, it seems this teaser poster might be as close as we’ll ever get to a ‘Dog Soldiers’ sequel.” Despite waiting for more than two decades, many fans remain hopeful.
Considering the constant queries from fans, I felt it was time to disclose the less-than-satisfying update,” Marshall continued. “Your steadfast devotion deserves more than this wait.” The film Dog Soldiers, released in 2002, marked Marshall’s first foray into feature directing and was an immediate success, propelling his career forward along with others. Lately, talk of a sequel has been circulating, and in his recent post, Marshall confessed that he’s been attempting to secure the rights for a sequel since 2018. Sadly, it appears that David E. Allen and his company Dash have decided not to proceed with the negotiations.
Regrettably, these discussions abruptly ended with no warning when, earlier this year, we were supposed to complete and sign the contracts. However, they vanished, stopped all contact, ignored emails and phone calls. The reason behind this mysterious disappearance remains unknown. As a result, we are unable to proceed with a sequel without this agreement in place, making it essentially defunct.
I’m sorry, but we truly gave it our best shot,” Marshall continued. “We wanted this for you, for all the fans who have been asking for it. However, it seems that fate has other plans. The original movie was a unique and extraordinary event, and maybe such miracles only happen once. So, here we are.
The movie titled “Dog Soldiers” features Sean Pertwee, Kevin McKidd, and Liam Cunningham as a team of soldiers who find themselves stranded in the Scottish Highlands during a military exercise after they are ambushed by werewolves. A local woman, played by Emma Cleasby, provides them refuge. This film was both critically and financially successful, playing a significant role in boosting the careers of its cast and crew members such as Cunningham’s later work on “Game of Thrones” where he portrayed Davos, and Marshall’s direction of action-packed episodes like “The Watchers on the Wall,” which earned him an Emmy.
Currently, “Dog Soldiers” is available for streaming in the United States on Peacock. Fans who are eagerly awaiting a potential sequel are gathering in the comments section of Marshall’s Instagram post.
