Donald Trump has put politics aside.

As a die-hard admirer, hearing about ex-President Joe Biden’s “aggressive” prostate cancer diagnosis had me reeling with concern. Yet, in typical Biden fashion, he took to sharing his feelings on this matter.

Melania and I are deeply sorry to learn about Joe Biden’s latest health update,” he posted on Truth Social, May 18. “We send our heartfelt and sincere well-wishes to Jill and their family, and we hope for a speedy and complete recovery for Joe.

Previously serving Vice President Kamala Harris, who worked alongside Biden and contested against Trump in the 2024 presidential race, expressed similar thoughts.

Doug Emhoff and I are deeply disheartened to hear about President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis. In these moments, our thoughts and prayers are with him, Dr. Biden, and their whole family. Joe is a fighter, and I am confident that he will confront this challenge with the same courage, tenacity, and optimism that have been hallmarks of his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a swift and complete recovery.

They aren’t alone in sending that strength. 

Meghan McCain, whose father John McCain passed away from brain cancer, expressed that cancer is truly devastating. She empathized with the difficulty faced by any family grappling with it. In her heartfelt message, she extended healing, prayers, light, and strength to President Biden and his family during this challenging time. Meghan believes that moments like these should not be politicized.

As a devoted follower, I echo the sentiments expressed by Governor Gavin Newsom: “Our thoughts are with President Biden and his family at this challenging time. A man of honor, fortitude, and empathy such as him deserves a lengthy and fulfilling life. Wishing him courage, healing, and prayers.

A wave of support on social media appeared only a few hours following the announcement of the 82-year-old’s diagnosis being made public.

Last week, President Joe Biden underwent a fresh examination that revealed a prostate growth, following persistent urinary issues he had been experiencing. On Friday, medical professionals diagnosed him with Stage 5 Prostate Cancer, which includes a high Gleason score of 9 and has spread to his bones.

Although the cancer seems to be a more advanced version, it’s responsive to hormones which makes it treatable effectively. The President and his relatives are discussing treatment possibilities with their doctors.

At the age of 30, Joe Biden tragically lost his first wife Neilia Hunter Biden and their 13-month-old daughter Naomi in a car accident in 1972. As a freshman senator, he dedicated himself to raising his sons Beau and Hunter, temporarily setting aside romantic pursuits.

Frank Biden gave him Jill Jacobs’ phone number a few years ago, and that’s when he started using the stove, not before.

In my 2007 memoir, “Promises to Keep”, I penned that she had returned a sense of life to me. She ignited a spark that made me believe once more that my family could be complete and whole again.

Joe and Jill married on June 17, 1977.

Often, the president often refers to his deceased son, Beau Biden, who was an ex-Army major and two-term Delaware attorney general. He passed away from glioblastoma in 2015 at the young age of 46.

Joe shared with the New York Times upon the publication of his 2017 memoir, “Promise Me, Dad,” that Beau strictly adhered to a code of honor. While this might seem unusual, it’s accurate. My father had a saying: ‘Never explain and never complain.’ Not once did I hear Beau voice a complaint. Absolutely not.

In simpler terms, during the final days of Beau’s life, as Joe explained, his son acknowledged his own mortality. He had seen him cope with the loss of his mother and sister. Rather than retreating within himself, Beau didn’t want Joe to withdraw from life. He didn’t want Joe to abandon the vigor that life offers.

Reflecting on my past, I vividly remember the moment I regained consciousness in the hospital in 1972. It was beside my brother, Beau, who was there with me following the tragic car accident that claimed our mother and sister’s lives. That shared experience etched a bond between us that would last a lifetime.

On the eve of his inauguration in January 2020, at a National Guard/Army Reserve center that bears his son’s name, Joe expressed his profound pride in hailing from Delaware.

He also felt an extra sense of pride being in this location, carrying out these duties, at the Major Beau Biden facility, he mentioned. To all present, I can’t help but express one sorrowful sentiment: I wish he were here. We ought to have been presenting him as President instead.

In the year 2002, Beau tied the knot with Hallie Biden (formerly Olivere). They were blessed with a daughter named Natalie Naomi Biden in 2004 and a son named Robert Hunter Biden II in 2006.

In the aftermath of Beau’s passing, Joe eventually chose not to contest for president in 2016. However, Ron Olivere, Hallie’s father, shared with Delaware’s News Journal that Joe had first sought advice from his daughter about the possibility.

“Her response,” Ron said, “was, ‘Pop, we’re behind you all the way. We’re behind you 100 percent.'”

Natalie, at the age of 10 following her father’s passing, shared on TODAY before her grandfather’s inauguration in January 2020 that Thanksgiving was probably her favorite holiday. She explained this because they typically visit Nantucket…[cousin] Maisy and I, along with my grandpa, uncle, and dad, used to participate in a Polar Bear plunge in Nantucket during November.

In the year 2023, she completed her education at St. Andrew’s School, a place where scenes from “Dead Poets Society” were filmed, located in Middletown, Delaware. Subsequently, she chose to attend the University of Pennsylvania, an institution that holds a special place in her father’s educational history.

Natalie attended a May 2024 State Dinner for the president of Kenya with date Rafael Hajjar.

Hunter, the son of Beau and Hallie who carries his uncle’s name, lives a somewhat secluded lifestyle, yet he has graced significant family milestones such as inaugurations with his presence.

In a CNN townhall conversation led by Anderson Cooper in March 2020, I mentioned that Beau’s children reside close to Jill and me in Delaware. With social distancing being crucial at the time, we’ve been spending our afternoons chatting from our back porch, while they sit on the lawn with two chairs placed there. We discuss their daily activities, their experiences of being away from school, who’s causing them frustration, and more.

1970 saw the birth of Robert Hunter Biden on February 4th. This Ivy League law school graduate (Yale) has openly discussed his battles with substance addiction and various personal hardships.

In June 2024, it was determined that he lied about his drug use on two separate federal background check forms for firearm acquisition and was found to have possessed a gun while addicted to or using illegal drugs. These offenses were all felonies. Prior to his father’s December pardon, he was facing a potential prison sentence of up to 25 years.

Hunter also pled guilty to tax-avoidance charges in September.

Despite being overshadowed by unfavorable media reports, Hunter Biden rarely attended his father’s campaign events in 2020.

Hunter explained to The New Yorker in 2019 that he and Beau had been accompanying Joe Biden since their baskets were carried during his first political campaign. His father tells him, “Be here,” and his mother says, “Be here.” But at what price?

In a change from his remote appearance at the Democratic National Convention in August 2020 when his father received the party’s nomination, Hunter was present in person on November 7 for the president-elect’s victory speech in Wilmington.

And despite his troubles, Hunter remains one of the president’s closest advisors.

In 1993, the individual who graduated from Yale Law School tied the knot with Kathleen Buhle. Together, they have three beautiful daughters: Naomi King Biden (born on December 23, 1993), Finnegan Biden (born on September 9, 2000), and Maisy Biden (born in 2001).

In 2015, the couple parted ways, with Kathleen mentioning substance abuse and unfaithfulness as some of her husband’s issues in her later divorce petition.

After Beau’s passing, Hunter developed a romantic relationship with his brother’s widow, Hallie. In a statement made to Page Six when this news emerged in March 2017, he expressed: “Hallie and I are incredibly fortunate to have discovered love and support for each other during such a challenging period. This has been evident to those who care about us the most.” He added that they’ve been blessed with family and friends who have stood by them throughout their journey.

The oldest child of the Hunter completed their undergraduate studies at Penn University, followed by enrollment at Columbia Law School. Currently, they are an associate at Arnold & Porter.

As fate would have it, I had the incredible fortune of crossing paths with none other than Tiffany Trump at the University of Pennsylvania. Funny enough, both her father, President Donald Trump, and President Joe Biden were present at our graduation ceremony back in 2016! Fast forward to the summer of 2018, I found myself enjoying a sun-soaked day in the Hamptons alongside Tiffany and none other than Naomi herself.

Naomi mentioned that her grandfather, who spent two terms as Vice President under former President Barack Obama, is always reachable by one of his grandchildren, regardless of where they are.

She disclosed during an interview on PBS Newshour in August 2020 that “He will be delivering a speech on stage and, if we were to call him, he would respond with ‘What’s the matter?!’

For several months preceding their November 19, 2022 wedding on the South Lawn, Naomi and her spouse-to-be, Peter Neal, resided with her grandparents at the White House as they prepared for their nuptials.

Naomi shared with Vogue following her wedding that she often finds herself reminding herself it’s the White House. However, over time, it becomes something ordinary or familiar.

On election day Nov. 5, Naomi announced she and her husband were expecting their first child. 

Hunter and Kathleen decided to honor the memory of Hunter’s grandmother by naming their second child Catherine Eugenia, affectionately known as Jean, Finnegan.

She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2021 and has been a consistent presence at various significant events, both in Washington D.C. and internationally. For instance, she was there with grandma Jill during King Charles III’s coronation in April 2023.

In 2023, the president and his wife attended the graduation ceremony at Penn where Hunter Biden and Kathleen’s youngest child received their degree.

Regarding the harsh criticism aimed at her family, particularly her father and brother Hunter, she expressed to Elle in 2023, “The true show of strength lies in remaining compassionate, despite the increasing rudeness of the world.

She didn’t hold back from feeling upset or angry. In her words, “It’s only natural for anyone who deeply cares about someone to feel this way when they are subjected to unfair attacks.” Furthermore, she emphasized that there’s a lot of false information circulating which is nothing but nonsense.

Ashley encountered her spouse Beau’s connection, Dr. Howard (who specializes in plastic surgery, teaches otolaryngology, and serves as the top medical advisor at StartUp Health—a venture capital company), somehow.

The doctor sought approval from his future father-in-law, who agreed, and proposed to Ashley during sunset on a cliff in Big Sur, California.
