Donkey Kong Bananza Loses Iconic Soundtrack Element Fans Adore!

1994 saw me becoming utterly captivated when Rare unveiled “Donkey Kong Country” for the Super Nintendo. This game breathed new life into the Nintendo franchise, redefining Donkey Kong’s character and world in a way that was nothing short of innovative. Unlike the original arcade games, “DKC” introduced a host of fresh elements, such as a novel supporting crew, unique adversaries, and a dramatically different gameplay experience. To this day, “Donkey Kong Country” continues to stand out as one of the greatest SNES games due to these reasons. But what truly sets it apart is its exceptional soundtrack, masterfully crafted by the legendary David Wise.

David Wise’s music is adored by Donkey Kong enthusiasts due to timeless tunes like “Aquatic Ambiance” and “Stickerbrush Symphony.” Over the past three decades, Wise has intermittently contributed to DK games, such as in 2014’s “Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.” Regretfully, it appears that Wise will not be a part of the development team for “Donkey Kong Bananza” on Nintendo Switch 2. In a recent tweet, Wise gave some positive remarks about Nintendo’s upcoming game, but made clear that he won’t be the composer this time around.

Wise announced that the upcoming ‘Donkey Kong Bananza’ game for Nintendo Switch-2 is due out in July. It appears fantastic and I’m confident its music, composed by someone new, will be exceptional.

Currently, it’s uncertain who will be responsible for creating the soundtrack. Fans had hoped that Grant Kirkhope might contribute given his work on Donkey Kong 64, but he has confirmed that he won’t be involved, leaving us in a bit of a puzzle. This isn’t too unexpected since Nintendo hasn’t announced who will be working on the game yet, but with Donkey Kong Bananza scheduled for release on July 17th, we may find out more in the upcoming weeks. Given some similarities between the game and Super Mario Odyssey, there have been whispers that the Bananza team might be the same.

Although some longtime Donkey Kong fans might be dismayed by the absence of Wise and Kirkhope, it appears that Donkey Kong Bananza is evolving into an exceptional game. ComicBook got a chance to test it out, and overall were quite pleased with their experience. While there seems to be a significant departure from the Donkey Kong Country series, Nintendo has not forgotten the original trilogy; the initial trailer for Bananza hinted at a 2D level heavily influenced by the 1994 game. However, during our preview, this particular level was not shown.

After Wise made it clear he won’t contribute to “Donkey Kong Bananza”, the composer suggested fans explore other Nintendo Switch games that showcase his talent, such as “Gimmick 2” and “Nikoderiko: The Magical World”. You can find these titles on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
