What should you expect from the Xbox Developer_Direct 2025?

Similar to past events, the upcoming Xbox Developer_Direct for 2025 will highlight four forthcoming games destined for Xbox Series X|S consoles, Windows PC, and Xbox Game Pass. These titles are DOOM: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, as well as an unidentified fourth game that’s entirely new to us all.

According to Microsoft’s Xbox Wire page, Developer_Direct is an exclusive event where you can get a behind-the-scenes look at the creators and their upcoming games. We’ll be touring Compulsion Games in Montreal, Canada to learn about South of Midnight, visiting Sandfall Interactive in Montpellier, France for a peek at Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, dropping by id Studios in Richardson, Texas for updates on DOOM: The Dark Ages, and stopping at an unannounced location to catch a glimpse of another studio’s fresh new project.

DOOM: The Dark Ages

Audience members can anticipate a comprehensive unveiling of the first-person shooter game titled “DOOM: The Dark Ages” during the upcoming presentation. This new title serves as a prequel to both DOOM 2016 and 2020’s DOOM Eternal, set in a medieval theme, and is being developed by id Software – a renowned studio that has created the DOOM and Wolfenstein series, as well as Quake and Rage.

South of Midnight

During our livestream, we’ll explore in detail the third-person action-adventure game titled “South of Midnight,” which is set against the backdrop of the American Deep South. The creators behind games like Contrast and We Happy Few, Compulsion Games, will be providing a closer look at their upcoming title from 2025. In this game, you’ll assume the role of a woman named Hazel, who is on a mission to unravel her family’s enigmatic past and its links to haunting Southern Folklore.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

In addition to exploring, we’ll delve deeper into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a fresh RPG utilizing Unreal Engine 5, which brings an exciting twist to traditional JRPG mechanics by incorporating real-time actions. Sandfall Interactive will provide insights into the game’s development process, as well as discuss its captivating narrative and visually stunning world reminiscent of Belle Époque France, infused with a touch of fantasy.

… And one more surprise

Wrapping things up, Microsoft plans to unexpectedly tour another studio to witness the debut of an unrevealed game. The game in question has sparked much conjecture, with some suggesting it might be a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion or a fresh take on Fable, but Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft’s VP of Games Marketing, has hinted on social media that it’s an unannounced title instead. The identity of this secret game remains a mystery for now, but I can’t wait to find out more about it during the event!
