Don’t Miss Steven Seagal’s Oscar-Nominated Classic Streaming for Free This June!

Next month, fans of action movies can look forward to streaming the critically acclaimed film “Under Siege,” starring Steven Seagal, which has been acknowledged by the Academy.

Starting June 1st, you can stream “Under Siege” on Tubi. This 1992 action-packed thriller features Steven Seagal as Casey Ryback, a former Navy SEALs counter-terrorist expert, who finds himself battling against a group of mercenaries that have taken control of the U.S. Navy battleship Missouri. Alongside Seagal, Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Busey, and Erika Eleniak also starred in this movie. Interestingly, “Under Siege” is the only film of Seagal’s to receive any Oscar nominations, earning two at the 65th Academy Awards for Best Sound and Best Sound Effects Editing. Unfortunately, it did not win in either category, losing out to “The Last of the Mohicans” and “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Under Siege, frequently hailed as Seagal’s finest work, garnered both critical acclaim (earning an 83% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and commercial success, grossing a massive $156.6 million worldwide. A follow-up, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, hit theaters in 1995, but didn’t quite live up to its predecessor’s critical reputation, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of only 34%. It also underperformed financially, despite having a budget more than double that of the original film. A revival of the franchise was announced for HBO Max in 2021, with Timo Tjahjanto and Umair Aleem on board as director and writer respectively. However, since the initial announcement, no further information about the reboot has been disclosed.

More Action Movies Are Being Added to Tubi Next Month

Tubi subscribers can look forward to several iconic action films gracing their screens at the beginning of June, including “Under Siege”. Action legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Clint Eastwood, and Matt Damon will also join the lineup. For instance, Schwarzenegger stars as an ex-FBI agent who becomes a small-town sheriff, tasked with dismantling a mafia organization. Meanwhile, Stallone takes on the role of capturing a criminal, played by Wesley Snipes, in a futuristic setting of 2032.

In June, a film starring Eastwood as the last Secret Service agent who was tasked with protecting President John F. Kennedy on the day of his assassination in 1963 will be added to Tubi. The story follows Eastwood’s character being called back into action to stop a dangerous former CIA agent who plans to assassinate the current president. (This version maintains the original meaning but is more concise and easy to understand.)

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, next month, it’s not just Jason Bourne from Matt Damon that I’m excited to see on Tubi, but his gripping performance in “Elysium”. Directed by Neill Blomkamp, this sci-fi thriller finds Matt Damon portraying a parolee who, after being exposed to lethal radiation, embarks on a mission to infiltrate the high-tech orbiting space station called Elysium. His goal is to find a cure for his condition and secure a second chance at life. However, he must evade numerous security and military forces that stand between him and his quest for survival.
