As Dragon Ball Daima concludes after Episode 20 titled “Maximum,” fans of the series may find themselves yearning for more content in 2025. Fortunately, WIT Studio is releasing a fresh series soon that effectively satisfies the longing for classic shonen anime with its blend of witty slapstick humor and intense battle sequences. What’s even more exciting is that this new series will premiere as part of the impressive spring 2025 seasonal lineup, with its first episode scheduled to debut on April 5th.
The freshly crafted adaptation titled “Yaiba: Samurai Legend” is essentially everything die-hard fans of vintage anime would crave for. It boasts an art style and color grading that echoes the feel of 90s anime, making it a strong dose of nostalgia that competently measures up against other contemporary shonen adaptations in its genre.
Dragon Ball Daima‘s Finale & Post-Credits Animator Shouts Out a ’90s Classic Remake
After the final episode of Dragon Ball Daima aired on February 28th, Takashi Kojima – one of the main animators who worked on the last episode – sparked fan interest in Yaiba: Samurai Legend set to premiere in Spring 2025. This upcoming anime will be produced by Wit Studio. Just days following the finale of Daima, Kojima shared Yoshimichi Kameda’s work related to Yaiba, including the trailer and sneak peeks for the forthcoming animation. Kameda is recognized for his character design and role as the Chief Animation Director on Yaiba.
This PV is out now!!! You can listen to the opening too!!! The PV uses some great scenes, but the main content has even more extravagant and must-see scenes. I highly recommend you to watch it!

Not only does Kameda’s work in the animation department evoke an ’80s and ’90s atmosphere, but it also showcases his unique interpretation of Gosho Aoyama’s original characters. This is particularly evident since Kojima previously unveiled a key visual for Yaiba, which was actually drawn by Kameda himself. Fans can get a taste of Kameda’s designs directly from this. Moreover, this adaptation of an iconic 1988-1993 manga serves as a promising prospect for those seeking action similar to Dragon Ball. In other words, the series’ vibe might be exactly what fans are looking for in terms of high-energy action.
Yaiba: Samurai Legend Embraces Old-School Cool With a New-Era Spin
The story revolves around the character of Yaiba Kurogane, a budding samurai who spent his youth learning under his father in the forest, later moving to the city. His rival, Takeshi Onimaru, a skilled swordsman, has a disagreement with Yaiba that ends inconclusively, leaving Yaiba disgraced and driving him to evil. With the discovery of a magical sword, Onimaru gains the ability to summon an army of demons with world-conquering ambitions. To thwart this menace, Yaiba joins forces with his companions to foil Onimaru’s wicked schemes. In the spirit of traditional samurai shonen storytelling, Yaiba encounters notable figures from Japanese history and folklore during his adventures.
Besides just WIT Studio animating the new Yaiba anime, which undoubtedly makes it a likely success, the engaging plot and execution are what make it enjoyable. Similar to Dragon Ball’s latest anime, Yaiba embraces its ridiculous elements, making its action scenes all the more entertaining. With an exceptional sense of humor, the team at WIT Studio has done an outstanding job in bringing Gosho Aoyama’s work to animation for the first time since 1993. Given that the original manga has sold over 17 million copies, it’s been a while since Yaiba Kurogane has graced anime screens, and this upcoming show is an excellent opportunity to reacquaint fans of Weekly Shonen Sunday with the iconic character.
