As an old-school gamer with a heart full of nostalgia and a controller permanently gripped, I can’t help but feel like I’ve just stumbled upon a hidden teleportation portal to 1993! The resurrection of my beloved DOOM 1 & 2, complete with a modern twist, is nothing short of a miraculous gaming event.
Just like they did with Quake 2 last year, id Software and Bethesda Softworks have unexpectedly released improved versions of Doom 1 and 2 during this year’s QuakeCon. These enhanced editions are now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The bundle, named DOOM 1 + DOOM 2, costs $9.99. If you already own the original games, you can upgrade to these new versions for free.
The entire package includes content such as Doom, Doom 2, TNT: Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment (which constitute Final Doom), Doom 2’s Master Levels, No Rest for the Living, and John Romero’s Sigil. It also features Legacy of Rust, a new episode with two chapters and 16 new maps developed by id Software, Nightdive Studios and MachineGames.
Game lovers excited about multiplayer experiences will be thrilled to know about the addition of 25 new Deathmatch battlefields and cross-platform compatibility for both Deathmatch and cooperative gameplay that supports up to 16 players. Other exciting features include the ability to create and modify your own content, refreshed soundtracks from Doom 1 and 2, support for high resolution (up to 4K) and high frame rates (up to 120 FPS) on current-generation consoles and PCs, text-to-speech capabilities, and many more enhancements.
