After releasing both DOOM 1 and DOOM 2, id Software seems to be planning to make available the older version, DOOM 64, on contemporary gaming platforms like Xbox Series X/S and PS5. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) in the U.S has recently rated this remastered version, and it received a Mature 17+ rating due to its intense violence and gore.
You can now play DOOM 64 on Xbox One, PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. It’s also compatible with current-generation consoles. For a detailed review, click here. The native version might offer additional features and higher resolution support, but the release date for this port is yet to be announced.>
The game DOOM 64, originally released in 1997 for Nintendo 64, has been remastered. This updated version offers Achievements, a modernized save system, and an expansion called The Lost Levels. Consisting of seven new stages, this addition connects the storyline of Doom 64 to both DOOM and DOOM Eternal.
Given that “DOOM: The Dark Ages” functions as a precursor to “DOOM“, it’s logical why id Software would bring “DOOM 64” to contemporary systems. Keep an eye out for further developments in the meantime.
