Doom Reigns Supreme: Marvel’s One World Under Doom Begins

In a twist of events six months ago, Victor von Doom assumed the role and magical abilities of Doctor Strange to become Earth’s latest Sorcerer Supreme, intending to shield the planet from a vampire onslaught (as portrayed in Marvel’s Blood Hunt). Subsequently, he isolated his country, Latveria, from global interaction. Doom relinquished his position as Sorcerer Supreme only after accomplishing what Earth’s strongest superheroes failed to do. “Here is how one saves the world,” Doom asserted, vanishing within his mystically fortified borders. However, he later transmitted a message worldwide, proclaiming himself Emperor Doom and aiming to consolidate the world under the banner of a new, powerful United Latveria: A World Under Doom.

Marvel Comics revealed the groundbreaking event “One World Under Doom” at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024. This significant shift has been gradually unfolding in comics such as Fantastic Four and Amazing Spider-Man. Interestingly, Marvel Studios disclosed around the same time that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Doctor Doom in upcoming movies like “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” To signal the commencement of Doom’s new regime, Marvel has released a teaser poster for “One World Under Doom” #1, which will be available on Feb. 12.

This nine-part storyline, penned by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and illustrated by R.B. Silva (Captain America: Symbol of Truth), serves as the foundation for a Marvel-wide event. This event will be continued in upcoming issues across various ongoing Marvel titles, such as Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Storm, X-Factor, and Weapon X-Men.

Marvel is releasing a variety of complementary series in connection with the event “One World Under Doom“. The Red Hulk starts a new solo series written by Benjamin Percy (“Deadpool/Wolverine” and “Wolverine”) and Geoff Shaw (“Wolverine”), Doctor Strange transforms into “Doctor Strange of Asgard” in a fresh ongoing series penned by Derek Landy (“Captain America/Iron Man”) and Carlos Magno (“Captain America”), while Tiger Division is rebranded as “Doom’s Division” in a new five-issue series by author Yoon Ha Lee (“Machineries of Empire”) and artist Minkyu Jung (“Star Wars: Doctor Aphra”). Additionally, launching in February are the five-issue series “Doom Academy” by MacKenzie Cadenhead (“Marvel Mutts”) and Pasqual Ferry (“Doctor Strange”), as well as the five-issue tie-in series “Thunderbolts: Doomstrike” from writers Collin Kelly (“NYX”) and Jackson Lanzing (“Power Man: Timeless”) and illustrated by Tommaso Bianchi (“Giant-Size Silver Surfer”).

In April, the World’s Ruler, Doom, brings together the Superior Avengers – a formidable group of Earth’s wickedest villains, created by writer Steve Foxe (known for his work on X-Men ’97 and New Champions) and artist Luca Maresca (renowned for She-Hulk and X-Men: Forever).

I’ve been developing a story titled ‘One World Under Doom‘ since 2023,” North shared. “Having this extensive head start gives me the opportunity to ensure the narrative flows seamlessly, and I can provide completed scripts for other artists working on related projects. This allows me to be thrilled about the direction this story has taken and is heading towards. It’s fascinating to learn about the plans other teams have for their books to capitalize on this new status quo – we’re all working together.”

North further explained, “Doom represents the ultimate villain in my opinion, as he triumphs even when he appears to lose. He’s not a typical adversary you can defeat by simply punching him until he stops causing trouble: he’s an individual who has carefully considered how to achieve his goals and manipulate others into supporting him. ‘One World Under Doom‘ begins after Doom takes over the world overnight, leaving a mystery as to how he accomplished this feat and gained everyone’s submission – but there’s also a more profound and terrifying question: now that he rules the world, what will he do with it? And how will the Fantastic Four and the Avengers attempt to thwart him?

Investigate the response to that query in issue #1 of “One World Under Doom,” which hits shelves on February 12 from Marvel Comics.
