Following an early release to Premium Edition users, id Software’s “DOOM: The Dark Ages” is now accessible globally for Standard Edition gamers as well. At its launch on Steam, the first-person shooter game saw a peak of 30,232 concurrent players – a noticeable decrease compared to previous titles.
On Steam, DOOM Eternal currently holds the record for the largest launch by id Software, with a peak of 104,981 simultaneous players. Meanwhile, DOOM (2016) comes in second with a peak of 44,271 concurrent players. It’s worth noting that DOOM: The Dark Ages was released on day one for Game Pass subscribers, which might have affected the Steam player base to some extent.
The price is now set at $69.99, which is $10 more expensive than its previous versions. This might reduce the initial number of players, but it could lead to higher revenue per unit sold. We’ll need to wait for updates from id Software about total sales across all platforms, so keep an eye out for further information.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is playable on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review here.
