DOOM: The Dark Ages is available now for Premium Edition owners

The Dark Ages, has been released. However, only those who opt for the higher-tier Premium Edition of the game can access it at the moment.

Several game publishers now offer “advanced access” options for certain titles, enabling those who purchase premium editions to begin playing a few days prior to the general release date.

For some time now, Xbox’s first-party game developers, including Playground Games for Forza Horizon 5, have been testing out early access options. However, this trend has intensified significantly over the past couple of years, with games offering early play without extra payment becoming less common and more of an exception.

Individuals who are already subscribed to either Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass have the option to opt for a Premium Upgrade instead, thereby gaining early access without having to pay for the entire game upfront.

For the game DOOM: The Dark Ages, the Premium Edition includes some exclusive skins, a digital artbook and soundtrack, as well as early access to upcoming downloadable content for the campaign.

It remains uncertain when this DLC will be rolled out or what specific shape it might assume, but there’s a chance that it could resemble the expansions for the 2020 game DOOM Eternal, which were distributed as The Ancient Gods Part 1 and Part 2.

In my assessment of DOOM: The Dark Ages, I stated that it provides unadulterated enjoyment, though it can be somewhat absurd at moments. What the id Software team has in store for the upcoming campaign DLC add-ons, I eagerly anticipate discovering. Witnessing a demon being struck by a flail or observing a dragon tearing apart a Titan never loses its charm.

If you’re not joining the early access, the game DOOM: The Dark Ages is scheduled for release on May 15, 2025. It will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5.
