DOOM: The Dark Ages is coming to Blizzard’s Battle.net storefront with Xbox cross-buy support

Microsoft is broadening the interaction methods for gamers by making DOOM: The Dark Ages available on Battle.net, Blizzard Entertainment’s online store.

This signifies that for the second time, a significant game developed by an Xbox first-party team, excluding those under Activision Blizzard, is now playable on the PC store, historically known for hosting Blizzard games. The initial instance was Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed, which debuted in February.

Similar to Avowed, DOOM: The Dark Ages offers an expanded version of Xbox Play Anywhere. This means that if you purchase the game on Xbox Series X|S consoles, the Xbox PC app, or Battle.net, you will receive a copy of DOOM: The Dark Ages for all three platforms.

Individuals with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription can additionally play DOOM: The Dark Ages on a Windows PC via Battle.net as well.

Xbox continues experimenting with game rollouts

It’s intriguing to observe, as it indicates that the Avowed trial ran smoothly. DOOM: The Dark Ages seems poised for further advancement, potentially making a great addition to Blizzard’s online marketplace as a single-player shooter game.

It sparks my interest to know if it will become commonplace for all Xbox exclusive titles from Microsoft in the future. Interestingly, Compulsion Games’ upcoming title, South of Midnight, won’t be released on Battle.net initially. However, there could potentially be a change and we might see it added later after its launch?

2021 sees Xbox adding more games to its library, some of which are still unnamed. We’ll just have to stay tuned to find out which ones make it to market. In the meantime, I’m excited about the prospect of witnessing the Slayer and his dragon Serrat in action on Battle.net.

The action game titled DOOM: The Dark Ages is scheduled to debut on May 15, 2025. It will be released simultaneously for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (through Steam, the Xbox PC app, and Battle.net), and PlayStation 5. Premium Edition purchasers will get two-day early access. Notably, the Standard Edition of this game will be accessible on day one through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions, as with other Xbox first-party games.
