DOOM: The Dark Ages Reaches 3 Million Players, Biggest Launch in id Software’s History

In a recent announcement, Bethesda revealed that DOOM: The Dark Ages, the most recent installment in id Software’s ongoing DOOM series, has been enjoyed by over three million players since its release on May 15th. This first-person shooter is now available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

It appears that “It” has set a record as its largest launch ever, managing to reach this total seven times faster than “DOOM Eternal” did in 2020. Notably, “DOOM Eternal” sold three million digital copies within its first month, according to SuperData. Given that “The Dark Ages” is available on Game Pass, it’s probable that it drew a significant number of players.

In terms of player numbers, even when compared to the highest number of simultaneous Steam players, Eternal outperforms significantly, boasting almost 105,000 concurrent users as opposed to The Dark Ages’ 30,232. Although it’s too early to tell for certain, The Dark Ages currently leads physical sales in the UK during the week ending May 17th.
