DOOM: The Dark Ages Will Have Agadon Hunter as its Marauder Equivalent

The Dark Ages”, has shared information about a new enemy similar to the Marauder in its role. According to Martin’s interview with PCGamer, the Agadon Hunter in “DOOM: The Dark Ages” will serve a function comparable to the notorious mini-boss from “DOOM Eternal”.

Martin stated that “The Agadon Hunter is like the new Marauder,” but he quickly added that this doesn’t mean the new adversary will be a clone of the Marauder. Instead, the Agadon Hunter will fill the role of the main enemy in the upcoming shooter game. He explained that this new enemy is designed to challenge players and test their proficiency with the game’s different mechanics, serving as an indicator of their mastery of the game.

Martin clarified that the character isn’t modeled after the Marauder, but rather set during the Dark Ages, making them quite distinct. However, they share a similarity in that many of their bosses will test your skills in various ways, requiring you to master parrying, dodging, and evading projectiles.

From what you’ve accomplished so far in the game, we consider this as if it’s an exam period. Everything leading up to this point is a preliminary test. When you face the boss, think of it as the final exam.

Martin additionally discussed the strategy behind creating the Marauder in DOOM Eternal, as well as concerns raised by certain players about its challenging nature being unbalanced. Martin suggests that player dissatisfaction stems from a lack of comprehension on how best to approach this battle.

Martin mentioned, “I’ve observed many individuals playing, and I’ve found that those who didn’t comprehend the game often became frustrated. On the other hand, those who grasped it seemed less bothered; instead, they enjoyed the challenge.

When considering the Marauder, it’s important to note that the actions he asked you to perform, such as shooting him and causing him to stumble, were not common tasks you had engaged in throughout the game prior to that moment.

As per Martin’s explanation, the Agadon Hunter is designed for players to leverage their combat knowledge from battling diverse adversaries in DOOM: The Dark Ages to triumph over it.

In other words, if the Agadon Hunter or multiple boss characters appear, whatever tasks they assign you throughout the game, that’s essentially the entire gameplay.

Marty Stratton, the producer, has discussed some innovative tools that players can utilize in the game DOOM: The Dark Ages, to battle its waves of demons. In an interview, he mentioned that most weapons have undergone significant transformations, with only the shotguns remaining largely unchanged. For example, the updated version of the classic Plasma Gun is called the Accelerator, which functions more like a submachine gun due to its high rate of fire.

As a passionate admirer, I wholeheartedly echo Stratton’s sentiments: “A DOOM game isn’t complete without the classics.” For me, that means a plasma rifle is non-negotiable, and so are the shotguns. But what else could they craft? So, they began designing each weapon from the ground up.

The game titled “DOOM: The Dark Ages” is set to arrive on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on the 15th of May. In the meantime, why not read our intriguing interview with Stratton and Martin?
