Jason Isaacs revisits the topic of the apparent bias in questions regarding his full-frontal nudity scene on The White Lotus, a point he had previously addressed.
To help clarify his original comments, which he acknowledges were not clear, Isaacs explains that his intended meaning seems to have been misunderstood.
In a statement, the actor mentioned: “People on the internet speculated about whether I wore a prosthetic in my nude scene, and I joined in the fun. However, I didn’t want my nude scene to overshadow the brilliance of Mike’s series, as it often does with other actors. So, I decided to humorously deflect the question if it was brought up.
It felt strange and out of place when, despite their persistent demands, I couldn’t help but find it peculiar that they were inquiring about whether they had actually witnessed me exposing my real genitals. Such a request seemed incredibly unusual.

He went on to clarify: “What I meant to convey, but failed to do so effectively, is that women have faced exploitation, exposure, and inappropriate treatment both on set and off for a long time. Moreover, I had never seen a woman being questioned so intensely about their private parts.
I made a mistake by mentioning actresses and the term ‘double standard’. To clarify, I wasn’t suggesting that there isn’t a double standard regarding nudity in films; on the contrary, it’s been prevalent for a long time. However, it’s primarily women who have faced the brunt of this issue. Interestingly, The White Lotus series has been addressing this very problem! It seems my statement was either misconstrued or didn’t come across as intended.
In simpler terms, attention has been centered on Isaac following an unexpected nude scene involving his character, Timothy Ratliff, in the latest episode of HBO’s The White Lotus, which left viewers quite surprised.
Ever since the latest episode dropped, there’s been quite the buzz among us cinema enthusiasts about whether John Isaac’s striking appearance in that scene was due to a prosthetic or not. Although the mystery has been solved, the man himself recently opened up about it all on CBS Mornings, shedding some light on the topic.
In response to Gayle King bringing up the topic, Isaac stated: “I believe Mikey Madison deserves the title of best actress this year at the Oscars. Yet, no one seems to be discussing her character as extensively as they should. I’m not referring to Saab automobiles from Sweden.
He pointed out an intriguing observation: while there’s a double standard in society concerning male and female nudity, it’s unimaginable for anyone to discuss Margaret Qualley’s character’s private parts in “The Substance” the way they would with men. This double standard, he continued, is quite unusual.
Pressed for more thoughts on the topic, he replied, “Mike White is an exceptional writer, and this series is one of the best on TV in a long time. I can’t help but wonder, why the fixation? It seems peculiar.
