Dr Disrespect’s Game Studio Shuts Down Without Releasing a Single Game!

Previously known as Dr Disrespect’s gaming studio, Midnight Society, has declared closure without having launched a single game. The gaming sector is one of the most cutthroat industries due to numerous independent developers, large studios, and everything in between. With more people playing video games than ever before, there’s always a need for something fresh and innovative. A couple of years back, contentious YouTuber and streamer Dr Disrespect founded a new video game development company called Midnight Society. He assembled seasoned professionals from Infinity Ward, 343 Industries, and other prominent first-person shooter teams to help him create something entirely novel.

In the end, they unveiled that their inaugural game would be titled Deadrop and would incorporate NFTs to some extent. What truly set it apart was that Midnight Society planned to construct the game alongside its players, enabling them to consistently test the game and offer valuable input. While beta testing is not unusual among games, by the time players can access it, the content is usually locked down. However, this wasn’t the case for Deadrop. Yet, during the summer of 2024, Midnight Society found themselves confronted with a challenging dilemma.

Dr. Disrespect was accused of sending inappropriate messages to a minor on Twitch, which may have led to his ban from the platform. These accusations were made by a former Twitch employee and supported by trusted reporters. The Midnight Society interviewed Dr. Disrespect and carried out their own investigation, ultimately deciding for him to leave the studio. This was a significant setback since many fans of the show Deadrop were also followers of Dr. Disrespect, and without him, interest in the show decreased significantly. It appears that his departure had a negative impact on the Midnight Society, as they have officially decided to close their studio.

The team behind Midnight Society, known for their work on Deadrop, shared on Twitter that they’re closing down, implying the game will remain unfinished. With more than 55 individuals working at this studio, they are now actively looking for opportunities in other gaming companies. In their statement, they expressed a desire to connect with fellow developers in search of a new home for their team.

Hey there, gaming community! I’ve got some bittersweet news to share – after an incredible three-year journey, Midnight Society is unfortunately shutting down. We’ve created something truly special with our new IP, Deadrop, thanks to the hard work of over 55 dedicated developers on our team.

As we move forward, we’re actively seeking game studios that could offer our talented folks a home. If you know someone who’s hiring, please help us out by sharing this message or hitting us up directly for introductions. We can’t thank our community members enough for their support throughout these years and we’re truly sorry we didn’t quite make it to our ultimate goal. Here’s to the memories and games we created together!

The misfortune of Midnight Society is undeniable, given the abundance of skilled individuals who were part of it. Whether Dr Disrespect’s continued presence at the studio would have altered their course remains uncertain. It’s conceivable that they would have encountered other challenges or even launched a game with initial instability. Regardless, this setback is hard to swallow for those eagerly anticipating innovative experiences in the First-Person Shooter genre.
