Dragon Age: The Veilguard preorder guide — Which edition should you buy?

Dragon Age: The Veilguard preorder guide — Which edition should you buy?

As an ardent fan of the Dragon Age franchise who has spent countless hours traversing the mystical lands of Thedas and making difficult decisions that would make even the Grey Warden’s heart tremble, I am beyond excited for the upcoming release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard!

Blighted gods arise, and only a handful of would-be heroes stand in their way.

Prepare yourself, as Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to arrive! After a six-year hiatus since the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition in 2014, developer BioWare is bringing another chapter to the beloved Dragon Age series. With the Dread Wolf once more meddling with the veil, the world of Thedas finds itself on the brink of catastrophe. To combat these fresh threats, players will assemble a unique squad.

Pre-orders for Dragon Age: Veilguard are now available! You have several options to choose from, including various rewards and editions of the game, each offering distinct advantages. Here’s a breakdown of the details:

Dragon Age: The Veilguard — Standard edition vs. Deluxe edition

In both gaming platforms – Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC (like Steam, Epic Games Store, and EA App) – you’ll find two editions of Dragon Age: The Veilguard for purchase: a Standard Edition and a Deluxe Edition. The Standard Edition retails at $70 on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, but only $60 on Windows PC. The cheaper version comes with just the game itself.

Simultaneously, the Deluxe Version offers additional aesthetic enhancements for the player character Rook, as well as companions Bellara, Davrin, Emmrich, Harding, Lucanis, Neve, and Taash. You can purchase this Deluxe Version for $90 on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, or for $80 on Steam. This edition provides players with the following extras:

  • 3 Rook armor sets (cosmetic only)
  • 6 Rook weapons (cosmetic only)
  • 7 Companion armor sets (cosmetic only)
  • 7 Companion weapons (cosmetic only)

On October 31, 2024, both variations of the game will be released simultaneously for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5.

As a longtime video game enthusiast who has spent countless hours exploring virtual worlds and battling digital adversaries, I can confidently say that Electronic Arts (EA) is one of my go-to publishers for high-quality gaming experiences. In my personal experience, I’ve found the EA Play subscription to be an invaluable asset, offering a 10% discount on Dragon Age: The Veilguard and other EA games. This savings can add up quickly when you’re investing in multiple titles each year!

This means that anyone subscribing to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate would get $7 off Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s standard edition, with a $9 discount on the Deluxe Edition.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard — Preorder bonuses

Preordering either the Standard or Deluxe Edition of Dragon Age: The Veilguard qualifies for a preorder incentive. This bonus includes the Blood Dragon Armor, which can be worn by your character regardless if they are a Mage, Rogue, or Warrior, and it offers a cosmetic upgrade for Rook.

The Blood Dragon Armor is a well-known feature that has been incorporated across several BioWare games. It debuted in Dragon Age: Origins as an exclusive bonus for purchasers of the Collector’s Edition and later the Ultimate Edition, which came with all DLC packs. This armor was also featured in Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 2, and Mass Effect 3, but it didn’t show up in Dragon Age: Inquisition or Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Is there a collector’s edition for Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
