As a seasoned Dragon Ball fan, I must say that the latest twist in the new anime, Dragon Ball Daima, has truly taken me by surprise! I’ve been following this franchise since its inception, and I thought I had a good grasp of the lore. But this new series is shaking things up in ways I never imagined.
In a groundbreaking first, Dragon Ball Daima is delving into the Demon Realm comprehensively for the very first time in the series, and with the advent of this new anime, significant alterations and revisions have been introduced to the narrative events surrounding the Majin Buu saga. The fresh Dragon Ball Daima anime series, created posthumously by the legendary Akira Toriyama, is now airing this Fall, and it’s already causing a stir with its bold modifications to the Dragon Ball universe’s history and functioning. However, these changes are becoming increasingly apparent.
The anime titled “Dragon Ball Daima” commenced by setting itself just beyond the Majin Buu saga and prior to the Battle of Gods. Unlike its predecessor, “Dragon Ball Super,” this series steers clear of cosmic entities and multiversal adventures. Instead, it delves deep into the Demon Realm and its denizens, with each episode. This shift brings a heightened emphasis on magical elements within the Dragon Ball universe, as well as an exploration of various magical beings that Goku has encountered. These alterations have resulted in quite a few unexpected twists.
The Supreme Kai Is Actually a Demon
The initial significant alterations to the Dragon Ball universe are increasingly influencing everything we’ve previously learned. In the series Dragon Ball Daima, it was disclosed that Namekians originally hail from the Demon Realm and fled to Planet Namek in the wider cosmos. Interestingly, this suggests that any character sporting pointed ears might be a demon. Demons can identify each other by their pointy ears, which encompasses all Kaioshin as well. Therefore, every god encountered by Goku up until now belongs to a race originating from the Demon Realm.
From my perspective, hailing from a mystical race known as the Glind, I’m a resident of the Second Demon World, born from a tree sprouting within its depths. We, the Glind, harbor an elitist view toward beings residing in the Third Demon World, and at some point in our history, we ventured beyond these boundaries, assuming divine roles. This revelation casts doubt on everything we thought we knew about me during the Majin Buu arc, as I seem to possess more insight into Majin Buu’s origin than I am aware. Moreover, I have been withholding crucial information from Goku and others until the unfolding of Dragon Ball Daima.
Majin Can Really Only Use Limited Kinds of Magic
The key revelation emerged when Panzy outlined the mechanics of magic within the Demon Realm. She clarified that demons generally possess a singular form of magic, which is quite restrictive compared to the versatility seen among characters like Goku who can train and enhance multiple techniques. In contrast, those wielding magic are limited to a single spell type, as demonstrated throughout the series so far, where demons have primarily employed one kind of magic in their displayed battles.
There is a bit of a wrinkle in this, however, as Dragon Ball Daima has also demonstrated the heights of a demon’s magic with the Namekian Neva in the first few episodes. This Namekian has been living for thousands of years, and has the complete control over the Demon Realm and Earth’s Dragon Balls. He even created the current Dragon Ball guardians, the Tamagamis, and seemingly has even more magical power than even seen on screen. There’s a question of whether or not this was a result of his being alive for so long and mastering the magic at his disposal, or if he was able to gain more abilities. But that’s something that also carries into the rest of the Majin Buu changes.
Majin Buu Was Actually Created By Someone Else
The latest significant revelation emerged in Dragon Ball Daima Episode 8, where it was clarified that Majin Buu wasn’t originally created by Bibidi as previously thought in Dragon Ball Z, or even preexisting from ancient times. Instead, a witch named Marba from the Demon Realm was responsible for crafting Majin Buu upon Babidi’s request. This new information aligns well with the notion that demons typically possess only one type of magical skillset. It’s plausible to assume that Bibidi and Babidi could only manipulate others, thus they were incapable of producing a unique creature like Majin Buu themselves.
Instead of the backstory for Majin Buu presented in Dragon Ball Super where it was shown that Majin Buu’s initial round form was due to him absorbing Grand Supreme Kai, this actually alters the events of the Majin Buu saga. It is now clear that Babidi was in over his head, despite his eventual demise at the hands of Majin Buu. However, it has been revealed that he had no chance of controlling the monster from the start. Therefore, it appears to be a foolish move by the villain to unleash a creature he had no power over, and an even more reckless one if this creature was integral to his master plan.
However, further developments unveiled that Arinsu secretly escaped to another dimension after Majin Vegeta’s self-sacrifice, and managed to retrieve a fragment of Majin Buu that had shattered. This discovery stirs up questions since this piece is being utilized to generate a new Majin Buu, implying that Goku didn’t fully vanquish Kid Buu at the conclusion of the arc. Fortunately, it’s not like the Cell Games scenario where Buu can completely regenerate if even a tiny piece remains intact; however, it does diminish the triumphant feeling surrounding Goku’s victory to some degree.
In the ongoing saga of “Dragon Ball Daima,” we can expect significant shifts as the story unfolds. Since it’s set post-Majin Buu arc events, this offers an uncommon chance to delve deeper into the immediate aftermath of such a monumental battle. Previously, “Dragon Ball” has skirted this timeframe with leaps forward in time between each major arc, and this is the first genuine journey fans are witnessing that transpires right after the world was turned upside down by a villain’s actions. The Demon Realm serves to underscore the true impact of the Majin Buu arc on the Dragon Ball universe, and we will continue to witness these changes. This new anime offers a broader perspective on this arc, enhancing our comprehension of its events.
