Dragon Ball Daima Is the Perfect Time to Make Janemba Canon

As a seasoned Dragon Ball enthusiast who has followed the franchise since its inception, I am beyond excited for the upcoming anime series, “Dragon Ball Daima”. The prospect of exploring new regions and meeting fresh characters is always thrilling, but the potential introduction of the fan-favorite movie villain, Janemba, into the official canon has me on the edge of my seat.

As a dedicated Dragon Ball fan, I’m thrilled to share that we’re about to dive deeper into the Dragon Ball universe this Fall with a fresh anime installment! It’s high time for the beloved movie antagonist, Janemba, to officially join the fray. This exciting news coincides with the 40th anniversary celebration of Akira Toriyama’s iconic manga series that first graced the pages of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. To kick off this monumental occasion, a completely new anime series is being introduced! Brace yourselves for an exhilarating journey as a revamped Goku embarks on a brand-new adventure through uncharted territories!

As a passionate Dragon Ball enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement about “Dragon Ball Daima”! Goku and Supreme Kai are about to delve into the heart of the Demon Realm, investigating a mysterious conspiracy that’s reduced them and the Z Fighters to miniature forms. Along their journey, they’ll undoubtedly encounter fresh allies and adversaries, expanding the rich tapestry of the Dragon Ball universe.

Dragon Ball Goes to Hell

Although there are many unknown elements about the upcoming series, it is confirmed that “Dragon Ball Daima” will delve into the enigmatic Demon Realm with its latest journey. Previously, glimpses of Hell and the Demon Realm have been shown in the Dragon Ball universe (especially when taking spin-offs like Dragon Ball GT and Super Dragon Ball Heroes into account), but Dragon Ball Daima promises to provide an extensive exploration of this mysterious region for the first time. It’s already hinting at some formidable demonic creatures.

The marketing materials for “Dragon Ball Daima” have unveiled some fresh character designs by the late Akira Toriyama, adding depth to the series’ lore. Similar to how fans encountered the Gods and Angels in “Dragon Ball Super”, there seems to be a distinct pecking order among the new inhabitants of the Demon Realm. Although we’ve only caught glimpses of characters like Gomah, Degesu, and Dr. Arinsu, one of them appears to be in command and could potentially pose a significant danger as the story unfolds.

Who is Janemba?

In essence, everything needed to establish Janemba as an official character in Dragon Ball Daima is already laid out within the series’ framework. In Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, we were first introduced to Janemba – a personification of pure evil – who emerged from a malfunctioning soul purifier. Over time, the darkness within humanity accumulated and eventually gave birth to this monster that invaded a demon’s body, transforming into the colossal creature Goku battles at the beginning of the film.

In this movie, a colossal, yelllow beast transforms into a foe resembling a human, escalating the battle against this Hell-spawned demon. The film is admired by fans due to the formidable danger Janemba presents and the intriguing possibilities stemming from his origins. Given that he hails from Hell, adversaries vanquished in previous Dragon Ball battles resurface, wreaking havoc once more. While you can revisit this storyline with Dragon Ball Daima, intensify it by making it harder for the Z Fighters to protect themselves since they’re temporarily in miniature forms.

Why Dragon Ball Should Make Janemba Canon

With the launch of “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” and subsequent manga content, it became clear that Akira Toriyama wasn’t shy about incorporating movie-only villains into the main storyline. This strategy has proven successful for Broly, who now stands among a select group of Saiyans protecting Earth alongside Goku and Vegeta using his distinct Super Saiyan abilities. The character’s future looks promising as he’s fully integrated into the plot.

But he wasn’t the only new addition to the canon given a makeover in that movie. Importantly, Goku and Vegeta’s Gogeta fusion was not only officially introduced, but given a huge power boost with the addition of Super Saiyan Blue on top of the already strong fused fighter. This form was also a formerly a transformation exclusive to the movies as it made its debut in Fusion Reborn as a final way for Goku and Vegeta to close the gap against Janemba. The demon was then dispatched quickly afterward thanks to Gogeta’s seemingly holy power, but what’s important is that with Gogeta now in the official canon. It’s time for Janemba to join too.

How to Make Janemba Canon

From that moment forward, the issue becomes finding a way to legitimize Janemba within the Dragon Ball universe. The exploration of the Demon Realm presents an ideal chance to initiate such a fearsome and genuinely demonic antagonist. In the same vein as Broly’s integration into the canon with a fresh backstory and dramatic transformation, Janemba can follow suit. Introduce the demon as a final form for a character that has appeared in the series previously, and then metamorphose them into a beast resembling Janemba.

By resurrecting the iconic movie villain, Janemba, you can enjoy all its advantages while circumventing the flaws from the initial character portrayal. Originally, Janemba was not a particularly deep character in the Dragon Ball universe (he primarily made noises instead of speaking), which suited the abbreviated runtime of a movie. However, this simplified approach might not work within the context of a full series like Dragon Ball Daima.

In the concluding anime series titled “Dragon Ball Daima“, overseen by Toriyama in terms of storyline, introducing this villain could serve as an ideal finishing touch to the franchise. Fans will be able to witness this when the new season debuts on October 11th, and for those residing outside Japan, it can be streamed via Crunchyroll.
