The most significant announcement for Goku Day 2025 is the Dragon Ball Double Cover Box. This collector’s item includes all 42 volumes of the original Dragon Ball manga, accompanied by fresh gallery illustrations created by top-tier manga artists. Notably, this box set also honors the 40th Anniversary of the franchise. Although the series officially started in November 1984 with the debut of the first manga chapter, May 9th falls within the initial year of its publication. In Japanese, “May 9” translates to “Go and Ku,” which is the basis for Goku Day.

The “Dragon Ball Double Cover Box” arrives in a special commemorative container for the brand’s 40th Anniversary, boasting fresh illustrations. Inside, each of the 42 volumes will have double covers, with the outer dust jackets showcasing new gallery artwork by various artists. Underneath these dust jackets, you’ll find the traditional Akira Toriyama covers. The box set also includes eight original dividers and a double-sided card set featuring all 42 covers and gallery art. At present, it is only available in Japan, with pre-orders being accepted through Japanese web stores or retailers that offer international shipping. Pre-order deadlines are set for August 3rd, 2025, with the box set expected to be released the following year on February 4th.

Dragon Ball Turns 40!

This special edition includes fresh content inspired by the latest anime series, Dragon Ball Super, which was the last anime project that Toriyama worked on before his demise.
