But none have managed to captivate me quite like the legendary “Dragon Ball” and “One Piece”. The “Dragon Ball Super Gallery” undertaking is where numerous manga artists from the industry have been replicating iconic crossovers from the renowned shonen series, Dragon Ball Super. In honor of the 40th anniversary of Son Goku and the Z-Fighters’ debut in the shonen genre, fans of anime have enjoyed watching the creators behind shows like Naruto, Bleach, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Spy x Family, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, and many others showcase their talent. As with most anime projects, this one too will reach its conclusion as the final cover of this long-lasting project has been unveiled, with none other than One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda taking the opportunity to bring things to a thrilling end.

To give you an idea of how long this project has been running, it first started in 2021 as Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the Seventh Hokage and the Hidden Leaf Village, got the ball rolling. For years, a brand new cover has been released monthly as some of the most talented, well-known manga artists have shared their takes on Akira Toriyama’s popular characters. There have been several times in the past that Oda has shared new takes on the Z-Fighters, with the manga artist routinely stating that the influence Toriyama had on his own work was immense, so it makes sense that he would vie to be the final collaborator on the project.

Eiichiro Oda’s Dragon Ball Super

In the Dragon Ball Super Gallery project, the most recent addition is a cover designed by artist Masakazu Katsura, who previously worked on Video Girl Ai. He seized the opportunity to reimagine an original Dragon Ball cover. As for Eiichiro Oda’s choice of cover, it remains unknown. However, fans eagerly anticipate its arrival as we welcome the new year, contributing to the ongoing success of this extensive art project.

The 590th episode of One Piece, also known as the installment where One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Toriko first collide, is now streaming on Netflix and Crunchyroll. Although no further crossovers have been announced yet, the final cover of the Dragon Ball Super Gallery promises an exceptional showing for both series.

Oda Talks Dragon Ball

Previously, Eiichiro Oda was open about how Dragon Ball impacted his creations. For instance, when Dragon Ball Z concluded, the creator of One Piece was happy to express his thoughts on the end of the iconic series: “One Piece started in 1997, only two years after Dragon Ball ended. It came as a shock for all of us. All the newcomers wanted that spot, leading to a competitive era where everyone aimed to fill the gap left by Dragon Ball. But after two years, people realized comparing themselves to Dragon Ball was like setting themselves up for failure. Somehow, I managed to make it through that period.

Oda went on to say, “At that point, ‘Dragon Ball’ and ‘Slam Dunk’ were no longer with us, and ‘Jump’ was experiencing a significant dip in popularity. The first chapter of ‘One Piece’, which appeared on the cover of ‘Jump’, was even titled ‘Magazine will outshine Jump’ in a newspaper. I don’t want to place blame, but I recall feeling quite upset about it.
