Dragon Ball Reveals a Grim Twist for Shin and the Supreme Kais

As a long-time observer of the Dragon Ball universe, I must say that the recent revelations about the Supreme Kais have added an intriguing layer to this already complex narrative. The idea that they are not primordial deities but an endangered species from the Demon Realm is both surprising and thought-provoking.

In the latest installments of “Dragon Ball Daima,” a heartbreaking twist has been introduced regarding Shin and the other Supreme Kais’ background. The storyline disclosed that Shin and his fellow Kais belong to a species known as Glind, which developed on trees. These beings hail from the Second Demon World within the Demon Realm, predating many life forms across the primary multiverses. This discovery significantly alters our understanding of Shin and the other Kais. Previously, it was believed that they were ancient divine entities, but it appears they are a sub-species originating from the Demon Realm instead.

Unfortunately, all the Glind Trees have withered away, implying that when the final Kais expire, their species will cease to exist. This makes Shin and the Kais the lone representatives of the Glind. The endangered status of the Glind is reminiscent of Goku and Vegeta being the last of the Saiyans, creating a compelling parallel between these characters. Interestingly, Glind are known for their extended lifespans, capable of living for hundreds of thousands or even millions of years. Therefore, while Shin might be one of the last of his kin, his species still has many millennia left before they fade away. With this new poignant history for Shin, Daima may be laying the groundwork for a possible resolution to the extinction of the Glind Trees.

How Does the Hierarchy of the Kais Work in Dragon Ball?

In my fervor as a devoted Glind follower, I embarked on an exodus from the dominion of the Demon Monarchy, seeking refuge in the heart of twelve grand universes. With each universe came opportunities and roles, one being the Supreme Kai – a sacred position of nurture and protection against divine perils. Yet, Glinds could be found scattered across these cosmic spheres.

At one time, Universe 7 hosted five active Supreme Kais: one from East, West, North, South, and a Grand Supreme Kai. Tragically, Majin Buu killed four of these powerful beings, leaving only the East Supreme Kai, Shin, alive. It’s later disclosed that the former Grand Supreme Kai was actually imprisoned within the Z-Sword. After being released, he took on the role of advisor to Shin, known as Old Kai.

In each of the twelve universes, the Supreme Kai is bound to the God of Destruction in a way that their lives are intertwined. If either one dies, so does the other. However, ‘Dragon Ball Daima’ doesn’t delve into the specifics of this connection, which becomes more intriguing given that characters like Shin and other Kais were around before the Gods of Destruction. Universe Seven has seen multiple Supreme Kais, adding to the complexity of the situation. It remains unclear whether Beerus, the God of Destruction in Universe Seven, will cease to exist only if all Supreme Kais perish, as this aspect hasn’t been fully explained yet.
