As a lifelong Dragon Ball fan who has followed this franchise since its inception, I can confidently say that the return of Dragon Ball Super is like a breath of fresh air! The manga has been on hiatus following the sad passing of Akira Toriyama, but it’s heartening to see Toyotaro carrying the torch and promising a bright future for our beloved Z-Fighters.
Despite all the buzz surrounding Dragon Ball Daiama, Dragon Ball Super remains the dominant force among the Z-Fighters. Following the sad demise of Akira Toriyama earlier this year, the manga has been on a break. In honor of his legacy, Toyotaro, the manga artist who was mentored by Toriyama, intends to carry on his work and create a prosperous future for Goku and friends. Fortunately, we now have a return date for Dragon Ball Super’s manga as this year’s Jump Festa has revealed when it will resume publication.
Even though it’s still uncertain when Dragon Ball Super will resume its anime broadcast, fans won’t have to wait too long for a fresh manga chapter. As revealed at Jump Festa, the manga edition of Dragon Ball Super is set to come back with a new story featuring Goten and Trunks. In their last appearance in the comic, they were emulating the Great Saiyaman, patrolling the city as Saiyaman X-1 and Saiyaman X-2. With the return of the manga, there’ll be a fresh one-shot from Dragon Ball Super, promising more humor as Trunks and Goten will be perfecting their best poses.

Super’s Return Details
Last night at Jump Festa, it was announced that Dragon Ball Super would be coming back, with appearances on all three stages of the event. The special one-shot is set to return on February 20th next year, and will feature a collaboration between artist Toyotaro. This new release won’t just see Trunks and Goten returning to high school, but also introduces a new superhero character called “Clean God.” Alongside the sons of Goku and Vegeta, this hero is expected to play a significant role in influencing the Saiyan teens as they engage in their superhero activities. You can check out the first preview for the upcoming one-shot below.
But What About Black Frieza?
It wasn’t revealed at this year’s Jump Festa whether Frieza will return or if a new full storyline will be introduced for the manga, but creator Toyotaro has hinted in the past that there are plans for future arcs. As for the anime, Dragon Ball Super still has unadapted major arcs like the Moro Arc where Frieza drains energy and the Granolah Arc featuring a bounty hunter who travels across universes, both of which could span multiple seasons due to their extensive content in the original comics.
Fortunately, as fans eagerly anticipate more of Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball Daima is utilizing this gap to irrevocably alter the Z-Fighters’ universe. Now, an alliance between Goku, Kaioshin, Glorio, and Panzy with Vegeta, Bulma, and Piccolo has been formed, sending them on a quest to seize another of the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls. As one of Akira Toriyama’s final works, Daima is unveiling previously unexplored aspects of the universe. Characters like Supreme Kai, Piccolo, and the Namekians are having their backstories delved into more deeply, while Daima continues to introduce fresh, formidable villains and conflicts.
