Dragon Ball Super Shocks Fans: The Super Hero Arc is Officially Over!

In 2022, the movie “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” hit the big screen, showcasing a distinctive computer-generated visual style for its characters known as Z-Fighters. The film introduced new transformations for Gohan (Beast Gohan) and Piccolo (Orange Piccolo), while also bringing back the villain Cell from the Z-world. This made for an exciting addition to the Dragon Ball Super franchise. For those who might need a reminder, the manga of “Dragon Ball Super” has been chronicling the story of “Super Hero.” Interestingly, artist Toyotaro has confirmed that the “Super Hero Saga” within this series has concluded.

In contrast to the film, the manga expanded upon certain events by featuring scenes not shown in the movie’s duration. One notable moment was watching Gohan reconnect with characters like Goku and Vegeta, as well as encountering Broly for the first time. Throughout these sections, readers of the manga observed Gohan going toe-to-toe with Ultra Instinct, Ultra Ego, and Broly’s Legendary Super Saiyan form. More recently, one of Akira Toriyama’s final chapters detailed how Trunks and Goten transformed into the masked crime fighters we are familiar with today. However, the future direction for this shonen series remains uncertain.

Toyotaro Lays It On The Line

Due to the publication of the 24th volume of Dragon Ball Super’s manga, artist Toyotaro announced that the Super Hero Arc has been concluded without giving any hints about future events. He mentioned, “Since the prequel for the Super Hero arc was only three chapters long, I had no other choice but to abandon further development. However, I was given the opportunity to draw three chapters detailing events after the birth of Saiyamen X. As we reached the end of the Super Hero arc, I felt compelled to share this story that I couldn’t leave unwritten. Fortunately, my request was granted, and I am now able to present it as a one-shot. Thank you for reading. With this, the Super Hero arc is officially over!

In the final act of the Super Hero Saga, several key components were established for what’s to come. Notably, Orange Piccolo and Gohan in his Beast form, as well as Dr. Hedo and Gamma 1 from the Red Ribbon Army, formed an alliance after clashing with the Z-Fighters. With Frieza, the strongest entity in the universe, still present, it appears likely that he will be pivotal moving forward.

Dragon Ball Super’s Anime Return

As I write this, there’s no news about when Dragon Ball Super will air again. There are two significant manga arcs left – the Moro Arc and Granolah the Survivor Arc – and each could generate numerous episodes if confirmed. Given that producers have hinted at the shonen franchise potentially spinning new tales for years, it seems promising for Goku’s continued adventures.
