Square Enix unveiled the initial gameplay trailer for the “Dragon Quest 1 and 2 HD-2D Remake” during their recent Nintendo Direct presentation. Being remakes of the original first two games in the series, they follow chronologically after “Dragon Quest 3,” which is part of the Erdrick trilogy. You can watch it below.
Although specific details about new features weren’t disclosed, both games exhibit a breathtaking appearance in the HD-2D art style. Characters maintain their sprite-like 2D look and movements, while the environments are fully three-dimensional, complete with realistic lighting and shadows. For those who have played the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, there are some exciting elements to anticipate.
Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi hinted at a character making an appearance towards the end, but specifics remain unclear. The revamped version of Dragon Quest 1 and 2, featuring HD-2D graphics, is set to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch later in the year.
