As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen countless remakes and remasters grace our screens, some shining like the sun and others fading into obscurity. The launch of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake today has me intrigued, not just by its visual upgrade but also by the number of fellow gamers who have joined me on this retro journey.
Today, the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake was released on both PC and gaming consoles. Judging by the number of simultaneous users on Steam thus far, it appears that the classic role-playing game is having a moderate, albeit not particularly spectacular, debut.
According to SteamDB, today’s playership of the game peaked at an all-time high for any Dragon Quest title, reaching 14,282 simultaneous players. This is particularly impressive because it’s the first significant Dragon Quest game to launch simultaneously on Steam, making such a high concurrent player count quite expected.
The number of simultaneous users playing Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake on Steam is nearly equivalent (though slightly lower) to that of Octopath Traveler 2 by Square Enix when it was first launched last year, which peaked at over 17,000 players. In contrast, Star Ocean: The Second Story R, another retro RPG remake from Square Enix, had a peak of over 8,000 players upon its release in November. We’ll have to wait and see how Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake performs on Steam in the coming days, particularly as we approach the weekend.
You can now play the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake on your PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, or Nintendo Switch. To learn more about this game from our review, click here.
