As a long-time Dragon Quest fanatic with a soft spot for nostalgic RPGs, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has gone gold! This announcement, coming two whole months before its launch, is like receiving an early Christmas present.
Back in 2021, Square Enix unveiled their plans to remake Dragon Quest 3, similar to games like Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy, in a style known as HD-2D. Now, two months before its scheduled release in November, it’s been confirmed that the project has already been completed. Originally, no further details about the game were shared until it was showcased during Nintendo’s June Direct earlier this year.
On their official Dragon Quest X social media platform, Square Enix announced that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has reached its final development stage, also known as “going gold.” This means that the DQ3 Remake is now ready for mass production and distribution. In the time leading up to its release on November 14th, Square Enix will likely continue to fine-tune the game, with any updates or fixes being released as a patch on launch day.
I can hardly contain my excitement as I pen this down! Square Enix has announced that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has gone gold! To celebrate this momentous occasion, here’s a photo of Yuji Horii, the father of Dragon Quest, and Masaaki Hayasaka, the producer of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. Only two months left until its worldwide release on Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on November 14. Who else is as pumped up as I am?

It’s quite unexpected that the gold mastering for “Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake” has been completed so far ahead of schedule. Normally, games receive their gold certification within four to six weeks before release, but “DQ3 Remake” has already achieved this milestone two months before its launch, which is quite astonishing. However, Square Enix doesn’t seem to be idle as they are also working on remaking the original “Dragon Quest” and “Dragon Quest 2”. These upcoming remakes haven’t been revealed in great detail yet, but they are planned for release in 2025.
What do you think about Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake based on what we’ve seen so far? And will you be picking it up for yourself when it arrives in November? Let me know over on social media at @MooreMan12.
