The creators, Square Enix and Artdink Corporation, have unveiled the initial trailer and snapshots for the High-Definition 2D Redesign of Dragon Quest I & II.
Here is an overview of the game and trailer, via Square Enix:
The upgraded 2D version, titled Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, offers a fresh take on the original games, Dragon Quest I and Dragon Quest II. Now, you can relive these legendary role-playing games on contemporary platforms for an unparalleled gaming experience.
As a devoted fan, I was thrilled to finally catch a glimpse of gameplay from the latest trailer, where we step into the shoes of the descendants of the legendary hero, Erdrick. His renowned lineage is carried on through generations in these captivating games. The much-anticipated Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, released last year, is set chronologically before Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, allowing us to delve deeper into the story and complete the esteemed Erdrick Trilogy, or enjoy this collection as a self-contained adventure.
Created by Square Enix Team Asano, the “HD-2D” graphic approach is a highly praised style that merges pixelated character designs with 3D landscapes, enhancing them with high-definition visual elements to create a visually appealing, yet nostalgic aesthetic. The DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake is the sixth game produced using this HD-2D style.
More information will be revealed about Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake in the future.
In 2025, the remastered versions of Dragon Quest I and II in high definition with a 2D art style will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, as well as on PC through Steam and Microsoft Store.
