DreamWorks Animation’s Underrated Gem Now Streaming on Peacock

When considering DreamWorks Animation movies, most people tend to recall their successful franchise series first. Titles like “Shrek”, “How to Train Your Dragon”, and “Kung Fu Panda” are all part of DreamWorks, and each series has earned its widespread acclaim. However, it’s not uncommon for the studio’s initial period of 2D animated films, which aimed to emulate the classic Disney Renaissance movies from the 1990s, to be overlooked.

DreamWorks fell short of their peak (achieving greater success with their Shrek franchise), but one of their 2D masterpieces has endured the test of time and should be included in the ranks of the best. That movie, without a doubt, is the 1998 release, The Prince of Egypt, and it became available on Peacock’s streaming service this week.

Featuring the late Val Kilmer, The Prince of Egypt is an epic adventure that narrates the tale of Moses’ struggle to liberate his people from Egyptian domination. This film boasts impressive action sequences, powerful vocal deliveries, and a heartfelt sincerity that shines brightly. Additionally, its animation is simply breathtaking. Revisiting it today serves as a poignant reminder of what we have been deprived of with the absence of 2D animated films in recent times.

Giving “The Prince of Egypt” another chance on Peacock’s streaming platform offers a fine reason to watch it, especially if you haven’t seen it yet.
