As a longtime WWE fan, it’s been a rollercoaster ride watching Drew McIntyre climb to the top and now engage in a heated feud with CM Punk. But what truly excites me is his foray into acting, particularly his debut role in “The Killer’s Game.” I’ve always been a fan of seeing wrestlers transition into Hollywood, and McIntyre’s performance opposite Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, and Terry Crews promises to be an action-packed treat!
At present, Drew McIntyre is one of the most exciting performers in WWE, engaged in a fierce rivalry with the seasoned CM Punk – this is his major feud since his comeback last November. Besides his wrestling career, McIntyre’s skills have opened doors for him beyond the ring. For instance, he’s starring in J.J. Perry’s movie “The Killer’s Game,” alongside retired wrestler Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, and Terry Crews. This film, set to hit theaters on September 13th from Lionsgate, is based on Jay R. Bonansinga’s book. McIntyre portrays Rory McKenzie, though details about his character are being kept secret. In this movie, it seems he has a smaller role compared to others. Although he’s been involved in various acting ventures, “The Killer’s Game” marks his first feature film appearance.
During an interview while promoting the movie, ComicBook spoke with McIntyre about his character and some intriguing wrestling topics. One of these questions involved both the film and the real world. In the movie, Bautista and McIntyre engage in a fight scene, leading Chris Killian from ComicBook to wonder if it’s possible for a real match between them might happen.
McIntyre expressed his hopefulness that the fight wouldn’t transpire, as he found it thrilling. However, during his time in WWE when Dave was present, they never had a one-on-one match. As a fan who grew up around Dave during his prime, McIntyre was disappointed by this missed opportunity. Now that there are no restrictions, much like how you can kill people in movies, he’s eager for the chance to fight. He made it clear that the ball is in Dave’s court, and while he didn’t imply that Dave was a coward if he declines the match, he did suggest that Dave might be somewhat cautious or hesitant about it, using the term “cat” as an analogy for someone who is cautious.
In 2019, Batista’s last wrestling bout occurred at WrestleMania 35 opposite Triple H. Prior to this, he had a significant stint in 2014 that concluded during the summer when The Shield (Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose, who is now with AEW as Jon Moxley) defeated Evolution (Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista). He’s been open about his wrestling career, stating that he’s content with its current state, even though the desire to return occasionally surfaces.
What Is The Killer’s Game About?
The movie titled “The Killer’s Game” centers around Joe Flood, a skilled assassin portrayed by Bautista, who learns he has a fatal illness. In a desperate bid for control, he arranges to be killed. However, the hitmen he enlisted also go after his former lover, Boutella. Now, with time running out, Joe must evade his relentless assassin peers and reclaim the affection of his ex-girlfriend before it’s too late.
In addition to Bautista, Boutella, McIntyre, and Crews, the talented cast of The Killer’s Game also features Pom Klementieff and Ben Kingsley. The screenplay for this film was penned by Rand Ravich and James Coyne, with production handled by Andrew Lazar (Mad Chance), Steve Richards (Endurance Media), Kia Jam (K. Jam Media), and Lipsync.
