Way to break Dua Lipa‘s heart.
Following the playful departure of its mascot Duo from language-learning app Duolingo, which had previously used a green owl character inspired by “One Kiss” singer in TikTok videos for years, the “Hallucinate” singer expressed her sentiments regarding this fictional creature’s demise.
In reaction to the company’s February 11th statement about X (previously known as Twitter), Dua posted “Until we part, forever and ever” along with a broken heart symbol on the following day.
After Dua mourned the owl (Joe Jonas had also mourned it), Duolingo provided more details about Duo’s unexpected demise. Later on February 12, they shared a TikTok video explaining that Duo was tragically struck by a Tesla Cybertruck and perished as a result.
Prize offered to anyone who can find out who was driving.”
(If posting on TikTok, feel free to share any helpful clues.)
Thank you for your understanding as we navigate through these difficult circumstances. #RestInPeaceDuo.
The initial announcement from the company shared a sad news: “Duo, previously known as the Duolingo Owl, has sadly passed away,” they said in a humorous tone. Currently, authorities are probing into the reason behind his demise and the company is fully cooperating. To be honest, it’s likely he perished while waiting for you to complete your lesson, but who really knows?
Duolingo joked that they are aware the owl “had many enemies.”
The message goes on to say, “However, we politely request that you abstain from disclosing the reason for your dislike of him in the comments. If you wish to express yourself, kindly add your credit card information as well so we can enroll you in Duolingo Max in his honor. We thank you for maintaining Dua Lipa’s confidentiality at this moment.
Since 2021, Duolingo, though not officially partnered with Dua, has shared numerous videos on TikTok that subtly reference the Grammy winner, whom they’ve humorously labeled as Duo’s unrequited love interest. In fact, they once posted a video featuring their mascot character proposing in a manner reminiscent of “Love Actually” to the singer of “Break My Heart”.
Hi Dua, it’s your biggest fan here – yours truly, Duo! I’ve flown all the way to NYC, just to express my feelings! You, I’ve adored for so long, and today, I mustered up the courage to confess: I want you, and I believe the feeling is mutual. By the way, your green jumpsuit is on point! I can’t help but interpret it as a sign that we’re meant to be!
The message continued, “”Anyways…Dua…will you marry me?”

The revelation that Hello Kitty is not a cat left many fans puzzled.
Jill Cook, an executive at Sanrio, clarified this to Today on July 18. She explained that Hello Kitty is actually a young girl born and raised in London suburbs. She has parents, a twin sister named Mimmy who’s her best friend, enjoys baking cookies, and making new friends.
Christine R. Yano, an anthropology professor who wrote the book Pink Globalization: Hello Kitty’s Trek Across the Pacific, had previously confirmed that Hello Kitty is not a feline either.
“Hello Kitty is not a cat,” she told the Los Angeles Times in 2014. “She’s a cartoon character. She’s a little girl. She’s a friend, but she’s not a cat. She never walks on all fours. Instead, she walks and sits like a two-legged creature. However, she does have a pet cat of her own named Charmmy Kitty.”
Here are some other interesting facts about Hello Kitty: She stands at five apples tall, weighs three apples, was born on November 1 (making her a Scorpio), and dreams of being a pianist or poet.
Wow, here’s an interesting tidbit!
Did you know that Bill Farmer, the long-time voice actor behind Goofy, shared the reason why this Disney character can speak while Mickey Mouse’s pet Pluto cannot?
In the August 2024 episode of Popcorn Podcast with Leigh Livingstone and Tim Iffland, it was revealed that Goofy is not exactly a dog, but rather a canine. This means he shares similarities with dogs, but is not specifically one. So, you could say he’s like a wolf in this sense—not a dog, but still part of the canine family. Alternatively, they referred to him as a MOG, which stands for man-dog.
However, Pluto, he added, is a “regular dog”—a blood hound as it turns out.
It turns out that the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants, Stephen Hillenburg, once disclosed an interesting fact about Squidward Tentacles – he is actually an octopus and not a squid as we may have thought. In a 2005 video re-surfaced by BuzzFeed, Hillenburg explained that the large, bulbous head of Squidward suited the character well because octopuses have such heads, and since Squidward believes himself to be an intellectual, it’s fitting that he would have a large head. However, if you’re curious about why Squidward has only six legs instead of eight, which is typical for an octopus, Hillenburg clarified that it was simpler for animation purposes to draw him with fewer tentacles.
Break out your handy dandy notebook and jot this one down.
It’s interesting to note that many people don’t realize that the character Blue originally started out as a cat,” said Angela Santomero in the 2006 special “Behind the Clues: 10 Years With Blue” rediscovered by Mental Floss. “At first, his name was Mr. Orange, but we later decided, ‘Hmm, perhaps it should be Mr. Blue.’
However, it’s worth noting that prior to this, Nickelodeon had been developing a show centered around a cat. This existing project prompted the animators to abandon their initial concept and transform Blue from a cat into a dog instead.
Actually, it wasn’t all that amusing, but here’s an interesting tidbit: The character Doug Funnie from the animated show “Doug” almost had a different name – Brian. The reason behind this change? Jim Jinkins, the creator of the series, stated in 2014 that he thought Brian was too extravagant. Instead, he opted for Doug, which sounds incredibly ordinary and was his attempt to convey an average perspective from the start.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always on the lookout for fascinating tidbits that add depth to our favorite stories. Here’s an intriguing piece of information: The character Boo, from the beloved movie “Monsters, Inc.”, is more connected to reality than you might think! According to BuzzFeed, it’s been revealed that Boo’s real name in the story, Mary Gibbs, is none other than the actual name of the actress who voiced her.
If you’re wondering how sure I am about this, let me share another piece of evidence. In the movie itself, there’s a scene where Boo is sorting through her drawings. If you pay close attention, you can spot the name “Mary” written at the top of one of the pieces of paper. Isn’t it fascinating how details like these add an extra layer of magic to our beloved stories?
As for characters’ names, although Minnie Mouse is commonly known as Mickey Mouse’s girlfriend, interestingly enough, as per the BBC, it was disclosed back in 1942 that her complete name is Minerva.
