The daughter of Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has made headlines after publicly announcing her divorce from her husband, Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, through an Instagram post.

Shaikha Mahra Mohammed Rashed Al Maktoum is taking matters into her own hands.

The daughter of Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, seems to have announced her intention for a divorce from her husband, Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, through a critical Instagram post.

“Dear Husband,” wrote Shaikha Mahra on July 16th, “Since you’re preoccupied with others right now, I am announcing that we are divorcing. I formally declare our separation: I divorce you.”

A 30-year-old woman, who married Sheikh Mana in June 2023, added, “Farewell. I’m your former spouse.”

The BBC shares that in some interpretations of Islamic law, a husband can end their marriage by uttering “I divorce you” three times in a row. This practice, called triple talaq, is controversial and has been prohibited in various countries. Unlike the husband, a woman typically does not have the power to invoke this divorce method unilaterally.

It seems that Sheikh Mana and Shaikha Mahra have removed each other from their social media lists without any confirmation from Sheikh Mana regarding his wife’s recent post.

The princess announced the news of her divorce on Instagram just two months after giving birth to her first daughter with Sheikh Mana, whom they welcomed into the world on May 9.

Shaikha Mahra has removed her ex-husband from her social media presence, but she continues to share pictures of her daughter.

In her caption for a picture posted on June 4th, she wrote “Just the two of us,” with heart symbols attached, as she cradled her baby close to her.
