Duff Goldman Details Last Conversation With Anne Burrell

Duff Goldman is remembering his friend Anne Burrell.

Duff Goldman, known for his role on Ace of Cakes, pondered over his intricate bond with another Food Network celebrity after she tragically passed away on June 17 at the age of 55.

Goldman started his emotional Instagram post on June 19, saying, “I’ve revised and rewritten this tribute countless times in the last 24 hours, and I’m still struggling to find the right words,” he began, alongside a photo of him with Burrell. “Anne and I became friends around 2006. She was going through some tough times, and I had heard that she was feeling down. On a trip to NYC from Baltimore, I baked her a cake with the message ‘Never let the hardships defeat you.’

Our relationship was intricate, and our last discussion before we went separate ways was quite a spirited argument over the value of catfish,” he said with a laugh. “Apparently, I was called a ‘trash fish,’ ‘tasted like mud,’ and a ‘cake boy.’

The 50-year-old, who is the father of 4-year-old Josephine Goldman with his wife Johnna Colbry, further discussed their relationship dynamic and revealed a recent encounter he had with the host of “Worst Cooks in America.

Goldman stated, “Anne and I often exchanged lively and somewhat sharp-witted banter. To this day, I’m not sure what caused us to lose touch, but I always wished the best for her, hoping that she was thriving and experiencing joy wherever she might be.

Approximately a year or two back, I was attending a gala in New York City with my wife and daughter. During the event, which included numerous speeches, I took my daughter out to the lobby for a break. There, we were amusing ourselves by exploring the marble columns when we ran into Anne. It’s been years since we last spoke, but during that encounter, we reconnected. While I won’t delve into the specifics of our conversation, I will share that it left me feeling uplifted and filled with warmth, as it seemed to me that Anne had discovered a sense of contentment and affection in her life.

Additionally, Goldman showed great joy over the stage in life that Burrell, who tied the knot with Stuart Claxton in 2021, has achieved.

Life can be hard, but we need to be strong to make it through. Anne was one of the strongest people I’ve ever known, yet beneath her protective shell lay a heart full of empathy and kindness that was truly breathtaking. Thinking about the love and peace she seemed to have discovered lately gives me hope, especially when I remember her warm smile for my daughter and me in the lobby. This tragedy hurts less knowing she showed us such genuine affection.

He ended up contemplating the possibilities if they were ever to be re-united someday, about what they could accomplish together.

Goldman expressed, “Anne, regardless of your location, I hope it has peaceful rivers flowing gently since once we meet, I’ll provide you with fishing rods, chicken livers for bait, and a six-pack. Then, I’ll show you how to catch and prepare the most delicious catfish you’ve ever tasted. Take care, my culinary artist.
