Reportedly, Robert Pattinson might be stepping into another popular series, as he’s being looked at for a significant part in the forthcoming “Dune: Messiah”. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is being contemplated for the antagonistic role of Scytale, a character previously played by Martin McDougall in the 2003 miniseries “Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune”. At present, no official offer has been extended to Pattinson. Director Denis Villeneuve aims to initiate the filming of “Dune: Messiah” around this summer.
Although Robert Pattinson hasn’t received an official offer for a role in Dune: Messiah yet, the fact that he’s being referred to as “circling” the project suggests that there could be more substance behind the speculation than mere gossip or unsubstantiated rumors. In other words, if Pattinson is genuinely interested in joining the cast, it seems likely that the role will be his to take.
Part Two last year. Recently, Jason Momoa announced he’ll be back for the series, with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya also confirmed as cast members. However, Zendaya’s busy schedule may pose a challenge for the production schedule of Dune: Messiah.
Currently, there’s no official confirmation from Warner Bros. that “Dune: Messiah” will be part of their release schedule. However, they have set aside a specific date in December 2026 for a yet-to-be-named film directed by Denis Villeneuve, which is generally categorized as an “event movie.” Initially, speculation suggested this slot might be for “Nuclear War: A Scenario” or another project of Villeneuve’s in the pipeline. However, it appears more likely now that “Dune: Messiah” will take its place on their schedule instead.
The news about Robert Pattinson possibly joining ‘Dune: Messiah’ is intriguing. At present, he’s engrossed in filming Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which interestingly stars Zendaya as well. Apart from this, ‘The Batman Part II’ is also on the horizon. The sequel to Matt Reeves’ Batman has faced numerous delays during its production, leading DC fans to worry that another delay might occur if Pattinson takes up ‘Dune: Messiah’. However, given that he previously mentioned ‘The Batman Part II’ would start in late 2021, it shouldn’t clash with the summer shoot of ‘Dune: Messiah’. It’s also noteworthy that Warner Bros., which distributes both franchises, would probably manage to avoid one project negatively affecting the other.
In the years following his work in the Twilight series, Robert Pattinson has proven himself to be a multi-faceted actor capable of taking on diverse roles. It’s intriguing to imagine him having the opportunity to delve into a villainous character like Scytale. Known as a Tleilaxu Face Dancer in Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah, Scytale plays a significant role in the plot to bring down Paul Atreides. Given Pattinson’s talent, Scytale could be an engrossing character for him to embody. Here’s hoping that this potential casting becomes a reality. Previous adaptations of Dune have introduced formidable antagonists, such as Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha, and it would be exciting to see Pattinson contribute to this rich tradition.
