The release date for Dune: Awakening has been delayed several times due to closed betas and changing schedules, which makes me quite impatient to play it.
Today marks an exciting shift in our plans, as Funcom officially reveals the launch date for Dune: Awakening, along with updates on preorders, a character creator, benchmark tool, and incentives for early buyers. However, there’s one crucial detail they haven’t disclosed yet – whether it will be available on consoles like Xbox and PlayStation.
When is Dune: Awakening releasing on PC?
On May 20, 2025, the eagerly anticipated game “Dune: Awakening” officially begins. However, it’s important to note that this expansive Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) will initially be accessible only through the Steam platform. For those who recall, Dune: Awakening is also planned for release on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.
Regrettably, Funcom hasn’t got any news regarding that subject currently. Initially, Dune: Awakening will be available on Windows PC through Steam, and it is expected to reach consoles eventually.
Can I preorder Dune: Awakening right now?
The pre-ordering for Dune: Awakening will commence shortly, although the exact date has yet to be specified. So, stay tuned and get ready to secure your place amidst the sandy dunes of Arrakis!
Funcom announced that Dune: Awakening’s base price on Steam will be $49.99, which is less than the usual $70 I anticipated. It’s worth noting that they specifically referred to “base game,” suggesting there might be more expensive pre-order options available, possibly offering extra in-game perks and resources.
For those who preorder, there’s a special treat: the “Terrarium of Maud’Dib” in-game item. This decorative piece for your personal base is not just an ornament, it allows you to observe a cute Maud’Dib – a mouse-like creature native to Arrakis – thriving peacefully within its habitat.
Does Dune: Awakening have a character creator or benchmark tool?
Indeed, that’s correct! Starting today, Dune: Awakening Character Creation and Benchmark Mode is being released on Steam at no cost. This update offers players a comprehensive character creation experience, delving beyond mere physical appearances. It also includes the origin of your character, their background story, and the philosophical beliefs that influence your initial abilities.
After creating your character, you have the option to utilize the benchmarking tool to assess your computer’s hardware, optimizing performance and visual settings to verify that your gaming system is compatible. Additionally, Funcom highlights that the benchmark tool offers an abundance of stunning in-game footage for players’ enjoyment.
With this tool, any characters you design will seamlessly transition to the complete game upon its release in May. This means you can chart your course on Arrakis well ahead of time and be prepared as soon as the game officially launches. Additionally, downloading and experimenting with the Character Creation and Benchmark Mode will reward you with a unique “Frameblade” knife skin at launch, making it an exclusive item in your inventory.
When is Dune: Awakening coming to Xbox and PlayStation?
As far as I’m aware, the game Dune: Awakening is still scheduled for console release, particularly on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 (and 5 Pro). Funcom hasn’t given any indications to the contrary, but since they haven’t said anything about it yet, it’s unclear. There’s been no announcement about a console release as of now, so it seems that Dune: Awakening is currently planned exclusively for PC on May 20.
Currently, there’s no update regarding the console release of Dune: Awakening, but I’ve requested Funcom to confirm that player progress and any early preorder or character creation bonuses will be preserved once the game is launched. Fingers crossed for a positive response, but Funcom might not disclose details until they’re ready to unveil all information about Dune: Awakening on Xbox.
