Dune: Prophecy confirms UK release date on Sky and NOW in new trailer

As an ardent fan of both the Dune saga and Emily Watson’s captivating performances, I am utterly thrilled about the upcoming series, Dune: Prophecy. The fact that it is set 10,000 years before the events of the original films, drawing inspiration from Sisterhood of Dune, makes it all the more intriguing.

The highly anticipated prequel series of Dune: Prophecy will be airing on Sky and NOW next month, as evidenced by the fresh new trailer that has just been released.

This narrative unfolds an astounding 10,000 years prior to the occurrences detailed in both Dune: Part One and Two. It primarily borrows its essence from Sisterhood of Dune, a work penned by Brian Herbert, son of Frank Herbert, and his frequent co-author Kevin J Anderson.

The series narrative centers around two Harkonnen sisters who fight against adversaries endangering human existence, eventually founding the legendary order called the Bene Gesserit.

In the newly released trailer, Emily Watson (from Chernobyl) takes the lead role as Valya Harkonnen, head of the Sisterhood. She is shown orchestrating a risky scheme, which she thinks will propel the human race forward and control the future.

Take a look at the trailer for Dune: Prophecy that’s provided below, and don’t forget to catch the series on Sky and NOW starting on Monday, 18th November 2024.

The fresh series follows closely behind Dune: Part Two, the film that captivated viewers upon its release in theaters earlier this year and is predicted to shine brightly during the upcoming award ceremonies.

In my perspective, Prophecy echoes the eerie ambiance and aesthetic found in the original films, notably with its haunting depiction of the colossal sandworms reminiscent of those that dwell beneath the sands of Arrakis. These monstrous beasts make several appearances throughout the trailer, maintaining an unsettling presence.

The ensemble cast of Dune: Prophecy also features Olivia Williams, known for her role in The Crown, Travis Fimmel from Vikings, Jodhi May who has been seen in Renegade Nell, Mark Strong recognized for his work in The Penguin, Josh Heuston from Heartbreak High, Shalom Brune-Franklin starring in Baby Reindeer, Charithra Chandran famous for her role in Bridgerton, and Jessica Barden who has appeared in Pieces of Her.

Regarding what attracted her to the series, Watson shared with Collider: “The scripts offer an intriguing, captivating, intricate mix of events, as the Harkonnens are a deeply troubled family from the beginning.

Valya and Tula Harkonnen experienced a distressing upbringing that becomes clearer as the narrative unfolds, and despite this, they’ve chosen a course aimed at shaping human destiny. Their actions seem to empower themselves in this endeavor.

She added: “There are no lengths to which they won’t go to do that.”
