The world of Dune has been expanded in Dune: Prophecy, the HBO series that has now come to an end.

According to the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson, the narrative focuses on sisters Valya (Emily Watson) and Tula (Olivia Williams) Harkonnen, chronicling their role in founding the group that would later become known as the Bene Gesserit.

In the six-part sequence, individuals throughout the Empire encountered enigmatic assaults. The final episode provided a wealth of explanations, yet also subtly hinted at further mysteries that may unfold in subsequent instalments.

Here’s how Dune: Prophecy ended.

Dune: Prophecy ending explained: What happened to Valya, Tula, and Desmond?

At the close of the show, Tula meets up with her son, Desmond Hart played by Travis Fimmel. However, instead of a warm welcome, he commands her immediate detainment.

In another location, Valya assists Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) and Keiran Atreides (Chris Mason) in their escape, guiding them to Arrakis as part of her plan to put Ynez on the throne.

The episode picks up with Tula reeling from the revelation that Desmond is her son.

The scene shifts to Valya’s act of killing Sister Dorotea, which was observed by Tula and other sisters. They devise a cover-up story, stating that she ended her own life, overwhelmed with sorrow following Mother Raquella’s demise. However, before confirming her involvement in the deception, Tula takes flight.

She informs Valya that she’s carrying a baby conceived by Orry Atreides, to which Valya vows to help raise the child jointly.

Currently, Tula and Nazir are still perplexed by the acolytes’ sketches and Kasha’s demise, as it appears the virus thrives on fear, transforming into a deadly bioweapon. It’s speculated that Desmond might have been the initial host of this virus, and they are working towards finding an antidote.

In a bid to transform the virus into a cure, Tula tries to utilize Nazir, but it leads to an unexpected outcome. Instead, Nazir encounters something he refers to as the “beast of Arrakis,” which causes him to ignite from within, much like Kasha and the rest did, resulting in his death on Tula’s table.

In an attempt to discover the duration of the Sisterhood’s conflict with the insurgents, Desmond resorts to tormenting Keiran. However, despite his deep-seated aversion towards the Harkonnens, Keiran concludes that his animosity towards Desmond and the Emperor surpasses it, choosing instead not to implicate the Sisterhood in any wrongdoings.

Ynez implores Natalya to show mercy on Keiran’s life, yet Natalya chooses to apprehend Ynez instead, explaining that she intended to instruct Ynez on the matter of power through this action.

Valya devises a plan to get herself arrested at the palace, followed by slaying the guards who have captured her. Instead, she sets free Ynez, swapping her with Sister Theodosia who has transformed into the Princess as not to raise suspicion. Upon Ynez’s request, Valya also liberates Keiran.

In the end, Valya confronts Desmond, and when she requests him to reveal a glimpse of her demise, they both faint. As she is on the verge of giving in to fear, visions of her brother’s death appear before her. Tula tries to pull her out of this state.

In the recollections of Desmond I peer, witnessing an appalling sight: his eyes being forcibly removed and replaced with a device, granting him his power. Yet, upon my intent to strike at Desmond, Tula intervenes, halting me in my tracks. In a sudden revelation, she confesses that Desmond is her child, and that I had been deceived all along to shield him from harm.

Valya spares Desmond’s life, gearing up for a covert confrontation with their adversaries. Tula hugs Desmond before he commands her detainment.

Valya, Keiran, and Ynez make their way to Arrakis, where Valya informs them that their adversary’s trail starts here.

How did Emperor Javicco and Francesca die?

Upon comprehending that his entire life was governed by the Sisterhood, Emperor Javicco makes a fateful decision to assert some control by ending his own life. Meanwhile, as Francesca tenderly holds him, Natalya strikes her fatally with a venomous dart.

Francesca, who is Constantine’s mother, alerts Valya about Ynez being taken into custody. She also delivers a message from Emperor Javicco, indicating his intent to give Francesca Natalya’s robe (mantle) and end his marriage with Natalya. However, Valya appears skeptical and starts devising a plan to save the princess and put her on the throne instead.

In a moment of recollection, we witness Valya strategically mapping out the Emperor’s entire lineage, which eventually led to the birth of Ynez. By employing forbidden genetic techniques, she orchestrated a union between the Emperor and Natalya, thereby ensuring Ynez’s birth. Her ultimate goal was to position Ynez as a Sister on the throne.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I too would employ technology to demonstrate my son’s capabilities to Valya – molding destinies across realms. In the here and now, Tula makes the choice to visit Desmond, aiming to halt the viral onslaught. Truth be told, he wasn’t created to be a weapon of war.

Valya intends to be apprehended as a means to reach Ynez within the detention chambers, and conspires with Francesca to contaminate the Emperor’s food or drink.

In a bold move, Natalya challenges the Emperor regarding his intention to dispatch her and transfer power to Francesca, implying that she’s got Desmond supporting her – effectively turning the Emperor into her marionette. Upon Valya’s arrival, the Emperor implores her to dispose of Desmond instead.

However, she firmly rejects his claims, explaining that the Sisterhood has been guiding his life’s path all along. She bluntly tells him that he is inconsequential, and what they truly desire is Ynez on the throne. In response to this, the Emperor commands her arrest, which was part of her strategy.

Francesca reveals to Javicco the plan aimed at taking his life. In response, Javicco threatens to retaliate against Francesca, but she reminds him that the bond between them prevents him from causing her harm. Overwhelmed by a lifetime devoid of freedom and yearning for control even once, he makes one final desperate move and ends up stabbing himself with a knife.

As Francesca holds Javicco close, Natalya plunges a poisoned dart into her, and both women succumb to their wounds side by side.

What happened to Sister Lila?

Sister Dorotea, who had been slain by Valya earlier, now controls Sister Lila’s physical form. She discloses to the acolytes the true events surrounding her demise and further reveals that Valya was responsible for the deaths of her former followers as well.

In a striking turn of events, Dorotea – formerly known as Lila – revisits the location where she perished and shares with the apprentices a chilling revelation: The Sisterhood’s foundation was steeped in blood.

We flash back to Valya taking leadership of the Sisterhood, using her powers to force them to accept her leadership or go the same way as Dorotea.

It results in a blood bath, with only one of them, Sister Avila, choosing to follow Valya and the rest cutting their throats.

Currently, Dorotea exhibits the remains of her late followers from the wells to the acolytes, claiming Valya was responsible for their deaths. She swears to restore the Sisterhood to its virtuous course, eliminating the prohibited genetic technology that Tula finds invaluable, and leaving the acolytes with perilous knowledge about their Superior Mother.
