Dune: Prophecy Season 2 Filming Update

Season 2 of ‘Dune: Prophecy’ is set to start filming this summer, suggesting an earlier-than-expected return to our screens. The prequel series concluded its first season in December and was renewed before the final episode aired. Since then, there haven’t been many updates, but actor Josh Heuston recently confirmed the news. In a recent interview with Collider, he revealed that he will start filming in August and expects to continue until the end of the year. Although no release date has been set for the series yet, if filming follows this schedule, we might see it as late as 2026. Given HBO Max’s busy production pipeline, a 2027 premiere might be more realistic.

When inquired about the return of his “Dune: Prophecy” character, Heuston confirmed, “Absolutely, it’s a certainty for Season 2. We’re due to resume in August and continue filming until the end of the year.” The actor expressed his enthusiasm for being back on set, praising his fellow cast members and the show itself. “I truly enjoy portraying Constantine,” he shared. He’s such a relaxed, entertaining character. Given how Season 1 concludes, it’s clear that he’s likely in for quite an adventure afterward. So, yes, I can’t wait to slip back into those roles again.”

Regardless of the extensive details shared regarding the schedule, Heuston remained cautious about the storyline itself. In his words, “The production is shrouded in secrecy, similar to the show itself.” However, he did reveal that various factions will be pitted against each other in the narrative, at least to that extent.

The film “Dune: Prophecy” serves as a precursor to Denis Villeneuve’s movie adaptations of Frank Herbert’s main series. While it is inspired by the books written by Brian Herbert, Frank Herbert’s son, it has deviated significantly from its source material, making the plot twists unpredictable. The story unfolds approximately 10,000 years prior to the movie events, which places it around 10,000 years into the future as seen from our perspective. This time and setting were only briefly hinted at in the original novels, but have been expanded upon in several books co-authored by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Regardless of its tenuous links to the original source material, the series Dune: Prophecy was generally appreciated by both fans and critics. While it didn’t achieve the same level of critical acclaim as the films, enthusiasts of the series or the genre are eager for more. Currently, you can watch all six episodes of the series on Max, and the Dune books are available in print, digital, and audiobook formats.
