Dune: Prophecy star reveals “nod” to Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atreides

As a fan of Dune, I am thrilled to see Chris Mason step into the shoes of Keiran Atreides for the HBO series, Dune: Prophecy. His journey is particularly fascinating because his character, Keiran, is 10,000 years before Paul Atreides was born, allowing for a fresh interpretation of the iconic House Atreides.

In the upcoming HBO series of Dune: Prophecy, actor Chris Mason hinted at a fresh portrayal of House Atreides. However, he subtly mentioned that there is a minor connection to the Denis Villeneuve films, specifically referencing the ancestors of the Atreides family, including Timothee Chalamet’s character Paul, which keen-eyed fans might spot.

10,000 years prior to my time, the story unfolds, leaving me with limited insights from the movies to shape my character, Kieran Atreides. In this timeline, I serve as a master swordsman for House Corrino, and form a deep connection with Princess Ynez Corrino, portrayed by Sarah-Sofie Boussnina in our production.

However, since the Atreides find themselves in an entirely distinct situation, it’s thrilling to have the opportunity to breathe new life into another Atreides character, which I hope will delight our audience.

Mason mentioned after considering the fighting style, “For around a month prior to filming, we focused solely on stunt training, starting from the beginning.

Looking at those old videos of us attempting the 12 movements on our first day, I can hardly believe how close we were to where we eventually reached! It’s amazing to see how much progress we made!

He commented: “It was also a wonderful opportunity for me and Sarah-Sofie to bond. Our personalities share a developmental journey, and spending so much time together, growing friendships, feeling comfortable with one another, supporting each other when necessary, made it all the more enjoyable when we brought that camaraderie to the set.

Boussnina noted that it was difficult since such actions were unfamiliar to her, but she found it enjoyable as an additional dimension for the characters.

In Dune, the narrative unfolds around the emergence of the Bene Gesserit Order, a group of exceptionally gifted females, honed through rigorous physical and mental training for many years, to achieve extraordinary talents.
