As a longtime follower of Dancing With The Stars and a fan of love stories that resonate deeply, I was both saddened and intrigued by the recent turn of events in the lives of Artem Chigvintsev and Nikki Bella. Their journey, as portrayed in their heartfelt posts and interactions, is a testament to the complexities of love and relationships, a dance that even the most graceful partners can stumble upon.
Artem Chigvintsev is looking toward the future.
Following the decision by prosecutors not to press charges after his August 29 arrest for domestic violence, the former contestant of Dancing With the Stars shared with TopMob News how he is navigating past this challenging period. He emphasized that his primary focus remains on his 4-year-old son Matteo, who he co-parents with estranged wife Nikki Garcia.
In a recent statement, I expressed that Matteo has been, and will forever be, the center of my attention. He is my universe, and the joy of being his father is an unparalleled gift in my life. Throughout this journey, my primary worry has been ensuring his well-being.
He went on to say, “I’m dedicated to offering him the affection, assistance, and attention he requires as things progress. I’m optimistic that obtaining a shared custody agreement can help us both transition smoothly.
On September 11th, Nikki, aged 40, submitted documents to officially dissolve her 2-year marriage with Artem, who is 42. She stated irreconcilable differences as the cause of their separation. In her filing, the ex-WWE star, formerly known as Nikki Bella, also asked for sole legal and physical custody of Matteo, while granting visitation rights to Artem. However, in his counter-filing just two days after, Artem requested joint legal and physical custody, along with spousal support.
According to Artem, he’s eager to progress beyond this phase and concentrate on what really counts – striving to be the finest father possible.
Previously, this skilled dancer has discussed his experiences with fatherhood. He shared that he never imagined himself as a father, confessing to Entertainment Tonight in 2023. “I never expected to become a dad,” he admitted. “But then I didn’t think my son would be as adorable as he is.
And before Matteo’s birth, Artem discussed his desire to experience parenthood.
He added, “It’s like you have the abundant amount of love that you wanna share.”
TopMob News has reached out to Nikki’s rep for comment on Artem’s statement but has not heard back.
Artem explained on The Nikki & Brie Show podcast in March 2020 that there wasn’t any particular instance when he felt the desire to become a father. Instead, he mentioned that as people reach certain stages in their lives, they may start yearning for the sensation of having a child.
He added, “It’s like you have the abundant amount of love that you wanna share.”

Artem Chigvintsev was apprehended around 10 a.m. on August 29th, as confirmed by Henry Wofford, the Public Information Officer from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, to TopMob News. Wofford added that Chigvintsev did not resist and was subsequently transported to the Napa County Department of Corrections. Online records indicate that he was detained for a charge of felony domestic violence with a bail amount set at $25,000.
On August 29th, at exactly 2:18 p.m., the court granted bail for the professional dancer and he was freed from detention, as confirmed by Wofford to TopMob News. However, no official court date has been set yet.
In my role as a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share some insights about a recent event involving Artem Chigvintsev. While NBC News reported that he was arrested in Yountville, California, the exact location remains undisclosed out of respect for the privacy of the alleged victim who has requested anonymity. The Sheriff is also withholding the name, gender, age, and relationship of the alleged victim to Chigvintsev.
In an audio clip released by TMZ on August 30th, it appears that Chigvintsev initially phoned 911 requesting medical assistance due to a disagreement in which footwear was supposedly hurled at him. Nevertheless, the dispatcher reported that Chigvintsev later declared he no longer required medical attention. Despite this, Wofford explained that authorities still conducted a wellness check. He stated to Page Six, “For domestic violence situations, even if someone calls and says, ‘You don’t need to come anymore,’ we will still carry out a welfare check. We won’t just stop our procedures.
Up until August 30th, Chigvintsev hasn’t made any public statements regarding his arrest or the 911 call. Our team at TopMob News has attempted to get a comment from his representative, but we haven’t received a response yet.
Chigvintsev was arrested just about three weeks before the start of Dancing With the Stars’ season 33. Interestingly, despite being a past Mirrorball champion and having been part of the show for 12 seasons, he wasn’t expected to be in this year’s cast, according to Page Six and Variety. We’ve reached out to ABC for comment but haven’t received a response yet.
A representative for Nikki Garcia, who first met Artem Chigvintsev during season 25 of “Dancing With the Stars” in 2017, issued a statement about his arrest on August 30. They requested privacy for her and her family at this time, stating that the matter is personal.
Immediately following Chigvintsev’s arrest, Cheryl Burke – a professional dancer who retired from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ in 2022 after a 26-year stint on the show – voiced her thoughts on the matter. Recalling their shared past and at one point living together, Burke expressed “shock” over his arrest on her podcast ‘Sex, Lies and Spray Tans’. On the August 30 episode, she stated that her heart went out to everyone involved, adding that it was difficult for her because Chigvintsev was like family. She hoped everyone was okay and shared resources in a clip of her podcast posted on TikTok.
On September 24, 2024, Allison Haley, District Attorney of Napa County, announced that her office would not be pressing charges against Chigvintsev, after a meticulous examination of the criminal investigation and thoughtful assessment of the evidence presented to their office.
“If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available,” she wrote in the caption. “Consider calling the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233, or text START to 88788, or go to…https://www.thehotline.org/.”
On September 25, 2024, Chigvintsev expressed his deep sense of relief and gratitude in an interview with TopMob News, as the domestic violence charge against him had been dismissed.
He confided that this period has been particularly challenging for him, but he’s grateful that honesty has triumphed.
The dancer added that he is “hopeful” in securing an equal co-parenting arrangement with Garcia, who requested for sole legal and physical custody of their son Matteo in her to Sept. 11 divorce filing.
Chigvintsev expressed that he’s eager to transition beyond this phase and concentrate more on what really counts – striving to be the finest father possible.
