Dwyane Wade Triumphs: Gabrielle Union Reveals He’s Cancer Free After Surgery!

Dwyane Wade has won his biggest fight.

A little over a month since the former NBA player disclosed that he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his kidney in 2023, his spouse, Gabrielle Union, provided an emotional update on his current condition.

The actor from Bring It On shared the good news that he is now cancer-free, which he revealed to Access Hollywood on February 27. She expressed gratitude for her husband’s decision to wait a year before announcing his diagnosis. This delay, she said, allowed us some time to come to terms with it and watch our deep-seated fears ease slightly, but he is currently doing well.

Gabrielle, aged 52, expressed pride towards their family, which consists of their 6-year-old daughter Kaavia James Union Wade, for courageously dealing with their health predicament. They admired how he had the bravery not only to undergo all the necessary treatments for his wellbeing but also to openly share his journey and potentially help others in similar situations.

Previously associated with the Miami Heat, and father of four children – Dahveon Morris (nephew), Zaire Wade, Zaya Wade, and Xavier (from different relationships) – he initially revealed his health condition on his podcast last month. He had visited a doctor due to persistent stomach cramps and problems with urination.

During my visit, I remember telling the doctor, ‘I’m really curious about understanding everything related to my body.’ At that age (43), I opted for a comprehensive body scan which allowed them to examine my internal structures closely and eventually discover an issue with my kidney.

He went on to clarify that he had a cyst in his kidney, which required surgical removal due to the riskiness of performing a biopsy. He mentioned that he only have one functioning kidney, with the other being 60 percent, and they had previously removed 40 percent of his kidney to ensure they could remove all the cancer from it.

Regarding Gabrielle, she has shared new details about her spouse’s cancer experience and the way their entire family supported him through it.

She explained to Jenna Bush Hager on Today, February 26th, that for him to undergo kidney removal and subsequent healing, our understanding and acceptance of his vulnerability was necessary. Additionally, she mentioned that he engaged in a great deal of self-reflection during the process of dealing with his diagnosis. She described it as difficult to offer and receive grace during this challenging time.

2019 marked the end of Dwyane Wade’s NBA career, a special event he celebrated with his wife Gabrielle Union and their daughter Kaavia. Additionally, Dahveon Morris, his sons Zaire and Zaya (from his marriage to Siohvaughn Funches), Xavier (with ex Aja Metoyer), and other family members were present for this memorable occasion.

Gabrielle and Dwyane demonstrated an unbeatable pairing, much like peanut butter and jelly, during Halloween 2023. Simultaneously, their little one, Kaavia, enchanted everyone in a Cinderella costume.

The Bring It On actress snapped silly selfies with Kaavia on Mother’s Day 2023.

As a devoted admirer, I’d rephrase it like this: “In this 2022 picture where my dad proudly displays his Salt Lake City Stars jersey, I capture the sentiment ‘Create an enduring impact.’

In January 2023, Dwyane Wade and his ex-wife Siovaughn Funches took Zaya, their shared child, to her school’s winter formal.

The pair expressed in a social media post that it’s crucial to stand together during life’s significant occasions. No matter the apprehension, the tension, or the dread, with our dear ones standing beside us, we face each hurdle confidently and resolutely.

Gabrielle posted on Instagram in 2020: “Looks like mama’s hair is just like yours, @kaaviajames!” She said when she removed her braids, Kaavia looked at her and it was as if to say, “Now mom and I both have our natural curls showing.

At the 2019 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards, the pair’s child, Kaavia, graced the stage for her very first award ceremony appearance. Notably, she handled it like a seasoned professional.

Following the Thanksgiving gathering with family, Dwyane decided to use Twitter as a platform to criticize online bullies who posted unkind remarks towards him.

He posted online, “After Thanksgiving, I encountered some negative comments about my family picture on social media. I understand that ignorance exists in our world, but

Gabrielle rang in her 50th birthday in 2022 with snuggles from Dwyane and Kaavia.

The couple are all smiles as they celebrate Zaya’s 16th birthday in May 2023.

On Halloween 2019, Gabrielle and Dwyane were ready with the perfect costume idea for their little girl.

However, hold on to your seats! Parents of the remarkable young lady, Zaya, have taken a new twist on their theme as well.

Dwyane praised Zaya amid criticism from online trolls.

He mentioned on the All the Smoke podcast in 2019 that his 12-year-old possesses more strength and courage than he does. He emphasized that there’s much to learn from children, as in our household, we prioritize ensuring each of us – me, my wife, and our kids – are seen and understood. We also focus on helping our kids recognize the power in their own voices.

Following Gabrielle’s dismissal from America’s Got Talent in 2019, Dwyane stood firmly by his wife. He expressed this support on Twitter, quoting, “‘Men lie, Women lie, numbers don’t.'” After the news surfaced, many people approached him, stating that Gabrielle (@itsgabrielleu) was the primary reason they began watching #AGT or admired her wisdom and authenticity on the show.
