As a seasoned survivor of the zombie apocalypse in the gritty world of Techland’s Dying Light series, I eagerly await the arrival of Dying Light: The Beast. With its heavy emphasis on survival horror, it promises to deliver the same nail-biting tension that hooked me from the very first night I ventured out into the infected wasteland.
In every installment of the Dying Light series, survival horror aspects have played a significant role in gameplay, and this will be no exception with the upcoming title, Dying Light: The Beast. Despite being a more compact and focused experience compared to prior Dying Light games, the survival horror elements are certain to be given considerable weight.
According to Tymon Smektala, the franchise director, Dying Light: The Beast will emphasize survival horror, particularly when you’re venturing into the open world at night. During these hours, the undead become more dangerous and active, but even during the day, the game aims to rekindle the tension and atmosphere reminiscent of the early hours in the original Dying Light.
In an interview with GamingBolt, it was revealed that “Dying Light: The Beast” emphasizes survival horror, especially during nighttime scenes where fear and peril escalate. The development team spent a significant amount of time refining and enhancing the behavior of the top-tier predators, Volatiles, to make them more terrifying and imposing. During the day, the objective was to replicate the nerve-wracking sensation of the early stages of the original “Dying Light“, where survival is precarious, and every interaction, even with common enemies, could be fatal. With increased zombie aggression, a tense atmosphere, and immersive visuals, players will have to exercise caution, creativity, and strategy to endure.
In the same interview, Smektala also spoke to us about the size and density of The Beast’s new map compared to Dying Light 2 Stay Human, as well as his perspective as a developer on the upcoming PS5 Pro’s PSSR. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for the full interview.
Development is underway for “Dying Light: The Beast” on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms. At this time, a specific launch date has yet to be announced.
