Dynasty Warriors: Origins Could Only be Made on Current-Gen Hardware, Developer Says

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and anticipation when it comes to the upcoming release of Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Having played every iteration of this series since its inception on the PlayStation 2, I’ve witnessed firsthand the evolution of both the gameplay mechanics and the technical capabilities that have allowed for the scale of battles we see today.

The game “Dynasty Warriors: Origins” deviates from the open-ended style of “Dynasty Warriors 9,” instead focusing more on tactical action and returning to its roots, but it won’t skimp on grandeur. In terms of battle scale, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force’s action series is renowned for featuring numerous enemies simultaneously, and according to series producer Tomkohiko Sho, the impressive scale that “Origins” delivers in this area is only achievable due to current-generation hardware.

In a recent conversation with The Gamer, Sho expressed that “Origins” is a project that can only be developed in today’s era. He highlighted that the concept of a battlefield is reminiscent of ideas from the past. Now, with the advanced technology of modern consoles and computers, we have the opportunity to delve deeper into this theme.

Undeniably, making gamers battle an enormous horde of adversaries, each visible simultaneously, would have posed a significant challenge for the Omega Force programming team. However, Sho mentioned that despite these hurdles, the development team successfully accomplished their intended goal.

He mentioned that the programmers were facing a challenge. Their objective was to display at least 10,000 soldiers on the screen, which was quite ambitious. Given this target, it’s understandable if they found it tough to achieve. However, their dedication is evident in the final result you see on the screen.

He mentioned that due to technological constraints, we weren’t able to achieve our goals with the PlayStation 2. However, as technology advanced, we’ve been able to incorporate more of our initial ideas with the introduction of PlayStation 3, 4, and 5.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins launches on January 17 next year for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
