As a seasoned warrior and long-time devotee of the Dynasty Warriors franchise, I must say that the latest offering, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, has truly piqued my interest. Having spent countless hours wielding a Guan Dao in the name of Liu Bei and Lu Bu, I am thrilled to see the series delving deeper into its historical roots, this time focusing on the “Subjugation of Yuan Shu.
After the Tokyo Game Show 2024, a variety of gameplay previews have surfaced, including from Omega Force’s “Dynasty Warriors: Origins”. This game is set during the “Subjugation of Yuan Shu” and features an unnamed protagonist leading a coalition in battles against Yuan Shu. Take a look at it below.
Initially, players attack an enemy fortress from the Eastern direction. But, as pointed out by producer Tomohiko Sho, they encounter swift resistance from enemies shielded and armed with catapults. Instead of persisting in this approach, the main character heads towards a base located to the northeast to aid their allies. On returning, players are tasked with safeguarding a siege tower as it approaches the fortifications. Strategies like Invigoration can be employed to motivate allies and dodge harmful attacks from enemy soldiers.
As a dedicated fan, I must say, going up against rival commanders isn’t always straightforward. You’ve got to seize every opportunity or employ strategic Arts to breach their defenses. Remember, the enemy could strike back with devastating tactics such as the Fiery Fortress, inflicting heavy damage. To minimize losses, it’s crucial to neutralize them promptly.
In this game, the protagonist demonstrates a variety of potent strategies and diverse weapons at their disposal, such as a Guan Dao. As you progress, you’ll join the armies of Liu Bei and Lu Bu, and even take control of your ally, Huang Gai, to inflict massive destruction upon Yuan Shu. The scale of devastation is immense, comparable to performing an “airborne piledriver” that sends out shockwaves capable of obliterating hordes of enemies.
