EA announces turn-based tactics game Star Wars Zero Company ahead of a full unveiling

The highly anticipated Star Wars Zero Company game, which takes place in a distant galaxy, is almost ready for its grand reveal – only a few days remain!

Developed jointly by Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor, under the publication of Electronic Arts, this Star Wars game will be officially showcased during Star Wars Celebration on April 19th, 2025.

What is Star Wars Zero Company?

Based on the art released by Electronic Arts this week, several characters are shown, such as a potential bounty hunter, Jedi, robot (droid), and clone trooper. Additionally, we understand that it is a strategy game with a single-player mode where you take turns.

Respawn Entertainment has quite a bit of experience in the Star Wars universe, having released Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order back in 2019 and its sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, in 2023. On the other hand, Bit Reactor is still relatively fresh on the scene, established by developers who have previously worked on popular games such as Civilization and XCOM.

Being a strategy game enthusiast who’s always hoping for more of these titles within established franchises, I’m absolutely thrilled to learn about the creations that the teams at Respawn and Bit Reactor have been working on. Particularly intriguing is the Star Wars shooter from Respawn, considering they had to abandon a similar project last year.

Although the game wasn’t flawless, I found it immensely enjoyable how Gears Tactics developed the XCOM-like gameplay mechanics. It would be exciting to witness Star Wars: Zero Company follow suit and progress in a comparable manner.

Additionally, it would be great to focus on establishing a primary location, either a spaceship or a covert lair. It provides a more satisfying sense of relaxation and conversation for the characters following their missions when they have a definite place to unwind.

I’m really eager to understand the mechanics behind character deaths or incapacitations in this game. In XCOM, losing your soldiers on perilous missions is a significant aspect, and while Gears Tactics minimized this by mostly preserving the main characters who weren’t permanently removable from the game.

It appears highly probable that Star Wars Zero Company will be released on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5 as it is developed by Electronic Arts. I’ll bring you all the details during the full reveal of Star Wars Zero Company on April 19, so keep an eye out for updates!
